No matter what weed killer you spray onto the lawn and no matter what grass type you have or what climate you live in your herbicide is going to come with label warnings having to do with temperature restrictions. The vast majority of products are going to tell you to not apply the product when daytime temps are above 90 degrees but that isn’t the whole story.
In this video I explain why that temperature warning is there, why weed killers can harm grasses when temps get high even if the grass type is tolerant to your product, and when to apply weed killers in the summer especially in areas that don’t usually cool off much at night.
For the most part for summer applications you should wait until the coolest morning of the week to apply to damage your turf grass the least… and you should only apply these products in high heat to lawns that are very healthy to begin with. Lawns that are stressed during periods of high heat will be far less able to deal with the extra stress load that comes with herbicidal applications.
In this video I also give an update to the project lawn and show us doing some spot spraying of weeds using a natural Iron HEDTA product from Natria. This isn’t a chemical and should be safe to use when compared to chemical products. The label for this product says to not apply when temps are over 85, we sprayed a few hours before day time temps hit 84.
Even if it doesn’t kill all the remaining weeds it will suppress them enough to get us through the summer into the seeding window for our climate.
I purchased the Natria product featured in this video at my local big box store but you can also buy it and other similar products online too. Here’s a direct Amazon affiliate to the Natria product we used: www.amazon.com/Natria-1005325...
In a future video I’ll be testing out Natria in my lawn along with a couple other chemical weed killers when my day time temps get over 100 degrees. When that video is released I’ll link to it here.
