Stoner!!!! Yes, yes and yes! McCarthy is also just incredible! I often say that as hard and miserable as life can be-- when I read amazing literature, I often say a prayer of thanks. I'm grateful to be alive to read such great books.

You should read "This is how you lose the time war". I can only describe it as science fiction poetry. This novella is beautifully written and the prose will stick with you. My new favorite book of the year so far, and I've read two King books.

I’ve been wanting to read Stoner for a few years now. But for some weird and nonsensical nerd reason, I only want to read the one you’ve got (not your particular copy of course but that addition and cover) I looked for it for ages but couldn’t find any here in the north of England. It was also difficult to find them online, it was always a different addition. Then last year it finally appeared online and I snapped it up immediately! But when it arrived it was a completely different cover and now it just sits staring at me, willing me to pick it up and read it. But the cover design is just putting me off! 😢😂 I know I’m going to have to put my big girl pants on and just read it, so I’ve added it to my little stack of books to read next because of your review. Fingers crossed I can get passed the outside ugliness to the wonderful substance inside! lol

I remember reading stoner several years ago and thinking this novel is something different-it's telling me the ordinary life of an extra-ordinary man. His stoicism is what I admired and pitied most. John Williams is a literary genius in my eyes. I wish he had written more novels. I personally love Nothing but the Night by him which reminds me very much of Ernesto Sabato's classic novel "The Tunnel" published in the same year.
