I don't think your take on the museum exhibit was snobby at all. In a way, it was the opposite. The LESS knowledge someone has going into an exhibit, the more important it is to provide the story or the "scaffolding" so that you can make sense of it and build on whatever knowledge you do have. I think I would find it frustrating, and I am not well educated in art or history.
@VeretenoVids
3 жыл бұрын
I am overeducated in art history and I thought what I could see of the exhibit was pretty poor attempt at showing "Victorian radicals"--sort of an attempt at a "splashy hits" take of the mid to late 19th century in England. But, I'm also not certain how large the museum was either and whether they had the resources to build a well-contextualized exhibit.
@aksez2u
3 жыл бұрын
@@VeretenoVids Interesting. From my point of view, even a simple explanation of what the curator had in mind as a theme or perhaps "This is the random things we could get our hands on from roughly this time period" would help me out 😁

OMG, you just experienced a true Victorian dressmaking session where the makers patterned, fitted, adjusted and finalized a dress right on you--no wonder you felt like a princess! Also, I appreciated your and Abby's comments on the museum. I grew up in museums (literally, living in the same building as one of the museums) and was totally confused by what I was viewing. No focus or fusion. The piece I was most excited about was the purple dress--i want that dress! Thanks for the great vid. Oh, forgot, what a perfect setting for Merida!

One of the things I really like about costube (after watching a lot of purse making tutorials) is the sense of community here. It could be me projecting, but I like that a lot of y'all are friends or at least good acquaintances. It makes me feel more a part of things even if I am a purse maker rather than a costumer/seamstress, who has become more agoraphobic over the past 14 months. I love watching videos of people who are genuinely happy with others and with their projects. Anyways, I know this is one of those strange meta-relationships, but one I'm happy in.

sorry, you didn't think much of the Victorian Radicals // from the Pre Raphaelits to the Arts and crafts movement I thought it was brilliant. But then I would as most of the Exhibits are from Birmingham Museum England, 20 miles where I live in Redditch and you have on show some of my favorite pictures from the Pre Raphaelite brotherhood which the Birmingham museum has. The Brotherhood Included William Morris who of course was the founder of the Arts and crafts movement. Burnes Jones was an artist and stain glass designer so it all mixed up together and lasted from mid 19th Century to the early 20th century The Bromsgrove guild( liver birds and Buckingham palace gates,) and the furniture maker and silver smith in Broadway and Chipping Camdon being among the last. But thank you for showing some of my favorite art I hope when it stops touring the States it will be on show in Birmingham. keep trucking
