In this episode, we embarked on a trout-chasing adventure just an hour away from our home.
Our weekend commenced with a rendezvous at Roaring River, where we joined our friends Tim and Teresa from Timberridge Seasoning for a day of fishing and a delicious lunch. If you haven't sampled their seasonings, you're truly missing out; they're a household staple for us. (link below)
Roaring River State Park, nestled in the scenic Ozarks of Missouri, is a paradise for fishing enthusiasts. Home to a pristine, spring-fed river teeming with rainbow trout, the park also offers well-maintained trails and abundant wildlife, providing not only exceptional fishing but also a serene escape into nature. Whether you're a seasoned fly fisher or a novice eager to learn, Roaring River State Park sets the stage for an unforgettable angling experience in the heart of Missouri.
While my two younger boys ventured off to explore the park's hiking trails, I remained dedicated to chasing trout. The park bustled with visitors in the early morning, but as the afternoon unfolded, the crowds began to thin.
It was a special day as four of our subscribers spotted me fishing, always a delightful surprise. Additionally, I had the pleasure of meeting Jon Tupper from the MAKO Fly Fishers during their fall get-together. If you share a passion for fly fishing and are on the lookout for a fly fishing club, I highly recommend checking them out. www.makofly.org
The following day, I embarked on a solo journey to the Beaver Lake Tailwater in Arkansas, often considered a hidden gem for fly fishing enthusiasts seeking a distinctive and rewarding angling experience. Fed by the cold waters released from the depths of Beaver Lake Dam, this tailwater maintains a consistently cool temperature, fostering a thriving population of trout, including brown and rainbow trout.
Surrounded by the natural splendor of the Ozark Mountains, this area not only offers exceptional fishing but also a tranquil and picturesque backdrop. Despite low water levels and no generation, making for slow fishing, I managed to net a few trout, which truly made my day complete.
