I would love a video on balancing healthy eating with the food budget! It seems like all these channels where the mom feeds everything organic are the thing now and we can’t all afford that. But still want healthy kids! I’d love your input and opinion on common sense with this area. It seems like people have lost their minds!

I love shelf cooking and that us what we have always done. We have SO much meat from our cow and good sales, but our 5 and 7 year old are SO picky. It is exhausting trying to figure out what to cook that is also something they will eat. If I was cooking for just my husband and I it would be so much easier.

I do this every week lol. Unfortunately, it never really saves me any money. I typically spend $175-$200 a week in groceries. We’re a family of 5, I buy all 3 meals, and I also have to buy school lunches and snacks. My kids are in private school ( on a full scholarship, I’m not rich) and they do not offer lunches so I have to buy it.

So what is your system? Because I have a family of 5 in Ohio and easily spend between $200 and $250 a week and we don't pack lunches. Not sure why this wouldn't save you money either...are you completely emptying pantry and fridge each week?

Lovely video! I “shelf cook’ every week. Just planning before I go grocery shopping- ok what’s in my freezer, pantry, fridge, what needs using up? Some tips for using up going old veg- a veggie soup, with meat broth, curry powder and lots of pumpkin and some red lentils then blitz it! Delicious just tastes like pumpkin soup. Old looking fruit- mix it in the food processor and make muffins! Those odds and ends of vegetables- (end of broccoli, end of cauliflower) dice into small squares and fry in onion with garlic and oil add mince- savoury mince/shepherds pie! Love saving money and budgeting! I’m in rural NSW AUSTRALIA, and spent about $250 AUD/week on my family of 6, however groceries are not cheap at all!

Great hack, Abby. I need to shop my freezer and pantry more. I’m by myself so I tend to enable myself to not cook and opt for easy. I’m going to try and do better. Perhaps writing down meal plans will help. I used to meal plan but I’ve gotten away from it. Thanks for sharing your tips!

Lol. I live* with 3 kiddos and a husband and I tend to do easy instead of actually cooking too. This week though, I buckled down and made a whole bunch of meals ahead of time(blue berry pancakes, raspberry and blueberry scones, and biscuits for biscuits and gravy). REALLY saved me a BUNCH of time(and energy). Took me one day to make all that, had breaky for the next 3-4 days, and I got to be "lazy" after that. 😆 It made my morning SOOOOOO much easier...and usually I struggle REALLY hard with breakfast time because I am NOT a morning person. Lol. Edit:* autocorrect strike again.😅😂

@@pattywilliams788 🤣 I mean...it's not ALWAYS fancy things like that... But I try to do biscuits and gravy and whatnot at LEAST twice a month. The rest of the time is usually oatmeal and fruit or maltomeal or cold cereal.😅🤣😂 Blueberry pancakes happen a minimum of 3 times a month...sometimes more...sometimes less. Really depends on what life is throwing at me. Loll

I've been doing this a lot more lately, and I'm pretty proud of myself. My fridge, freezer, and pantry get PRETTY EMPTY by the end of the month. 😁 I got down to 2 cans of black beans, 4 boxes or so of noodles, 4-6 cans of fruit, 4 cans of crushed tomatoes in sauce, and a half a bag of corn tortillas. Made the last meal of chili last night, and made homemade biscuits and gravy for breakfast today right after we had a Walmart delivery for more food(because we don't have a way to the store ATM). I'd have had the biscuits and gravy made earlier than the delivery... ..but I kinda slept past my alarm.😅😂 Edit: the baby doing the head bobble on your shoulder really makes me miss mine being that small.😭❤️❤️❤️ So cute!!!❤❤❤❤
