It’s really nice to hear that it shouldn’t matter how many planners you have. I feel like sometimes you get caught in your own head and start to feel guilty of having so many planner. But as you said as long as it’s functioning for you it is a functional planner 🥰

Simmer down 😂 Love that! I totally agree about having your planner work for you and how an audience can be overly entitled. I love that people share their planners, I am all or nothing and if I start, it will be all-consuming and I just can’t go down that road. Using a Hobonichi for the first time has been so much fun and the adaptability has kept me using my planner all year. It’s a miracle 😍

I’m with you on the functional topic. Often people like to assimilate into groups and think their way is best. It’s part of why I stepped back from social media altogether. I’m not about drama. I love your explanation and variety in crafting and planning is wonderful for inspiration. ❤

You are easily one of my favorites in the TY-iverse 🙂 Your sarcasm and humor matches mine quite well! I am 100% with you on the whole "functional" planning. I have given up on posting much for this reason. My planner is 100% functional. But it also has stickers. I don't want to have to explain it and I am just over it, to be honest! Thank you for sharing your fun spread and will look forward to more of your chats in 2024!!

You go Julie! I am so onboard with what you said about "functional" planning. My planner is functional but I love to sticker it up! I always hear well I am a functional planner and then they jab about spending money on kits. I am like you know what I earn my money and it is my money and how I manage it to allow me to buy stickers that make me happy is worth it. I don't need judgement. Your planner for some is a part of you and it needs to be right for you and everyone should do their planner the way they want to. So far the Hobo Cousin (avec) is feeling like it is going to give me what I have been looking for.

I call myself a functional planner but don't worry, I still spend oodles on stickers and washi and pens 😅 i just go through it fairly slowly haha its definitely not a weighted term when i use it!

I like your definition of functional planning. It seems like a few videos I’ve watched equate functional with “very plain/no decoration”. My catch-all has been working for me all through 2023. I’m continuing with the same planner thru 12/24. Allergies for dogs are horrible. I hope Loki gets better soon. My Christmas will be spent at the hospital with my friend who was in a car wreck two weeks ago. Or, we may hold off until she is healthy enough to go home. My friends are alive and kicking. This has been a tough year for all of us. I’m just grateful we are all still here. Merry Christmas to you and yours. I wish everyone a safe and joyful time with friends and loved ones.

Happy Holidays, Julie! I love Christmastime 🎄- My special moment will be the house full of family. All of our children are grown and spread out all over the US - so for a few days, I get to have them all at home, and I am so excited. We plan a bi-annual Christmas Eve party - usually family and a few friends. We have a tournament of games planned, and it will be something for all ages. Lots of baking breads🍞, cookies🍪, cakes🥮 and some other Christmas treats🍰!! I am so excited, as you can probably tell. Wishing everyone a beautiful week and a wonderful holiday.

I understand your view of “functional.” I have been guilty of using that term for my own planning, but I haven’t put too much thought into the name, it’s just what everyone else has been calling it. I feel that everyone needs a planner that works best for them, but sometimes I feel like the crazy stickered planners are just for social media, so maybe that’s what I think they’re meaning? Just my thoughts. And maybe the bitterness comes from the oversaturation of this more decorative planning compared to more minimal planning? Again, these are just my thoughts after hearing yours 😊 and good luck to your bulldog!! ❤

Ooo I have big thoughts on the terms functional and decorative!! As someone who identifies with the label functional, i disagree with your interpretation of it 😳for me, and how I've seen it used, there's a functional - decorative spectrum, and when i say i'm a functional planner, what i mean, and look for others who define it the same way, function is tied to the level of decoration FOR ME, and i have to stay on the "functional" side of the spectrum or else my planner loses functionality - but it's not devoid of washi and stickers, its just a lower ratio. i think it's unsaid and assumed that however a planner works for the user is the ultimate definition of functionality, but since we're lil goblins on the internet, we create our own definitions. i'd say minimalism is a type of functionality, but not the overarching category. ex: i'd call this spread more decorative because of the use of boxes on the sidebar, the weekend banner, the illustrated boxes etc BUT that doesn't remove the function for you, its just a way for me to categorize this style - and for me, i even put functional boxes in the decorative side of things, while some may disagree, because they create too much visual distraction and then dont work for me - even if i like them! and think its cute! so, in conclusion, i believe the terms functional and decorative have become synonymous with limited sticker usage and heavy sticker usage, respectively. Whether that's kits, icons, boxes, washi, etc. Thank you for coming to my TED talk, would love to know if others agree, disagree or have any better terms to use to find planners with similar styles!
