thanks for the shout out! in virtualdub, i'm able to change the framerate of the capture card in virtualdub to 59.94. i usually set it to that and not 60 just to be safe.

Mine won’t let me select 59.94…weird! Either way (like you said), it DOES capture true 480i, so that’s a win :)

That D9 bezel fits perfect. My D9 looks like it's been through a warzone so I could have gotten a bezel with more imperfections to have it match a little better. Cheers.

A PS2 modchip is hardly worth it when softmod solutions like OPL exist.

I've personally never had issue booting any game from RetroNAS. IMO, hard mods for PS2 are defunct.

Big OOF on my part, I was so excited for the Flippy Drive I completely misread the release dates and thought I'd have them before a convention in March 😫 I ordered 4 ethernet add-ons to do Double Dash stuff (and anything else that might work in a convention setting) Glad I saw this video.

Re the PS2: a large reason for a modchip is it opens up PS1 backups and imports. Also yeah like you said, compatibility issues can be a thing.

The Flippy Drive had 1k units ready with rolling batches after. I got the January one, some got November. Unless it was site error.

If you have a fat model with HDD space and network adapter, or slim with one of those SD card mods I don't really see a need for a modchip. With fat models if you get a newer style PSU, Noctua fan mod, Retro GEM hdmi, network adapter with SATA conversion and SATA SSD, Memcard Pro 2 and some kind of wireless controller setup that allows you to use either official DualShock 3 or Retro Fighters Defender controllers, that is the ultimate PS2. Nothing else to improve at that point.

Tito's PS2 slim is pretty sweet. Can't deny it. Modchip is completely redundant in PS2s these days, imo. I ripped mine out about 6 years ago, and never looked back.

By the time I got to the article on the site and saw the ebay store, there was only #72 left, sadly I'm not very keen on that one but I'd definitely be up for paying more for a more polished looking version.

I would love to get the OSSC Pro. I plan to add the no cut digital out to my NES and I know the OSSC Pro supports that feature. However, I have been spending all my extra money on NES/SNES/Genesis video game collection. I am trying to get all the 'good' Disney games. I need to save up for a couple of months to get the OSSC Pro.
@thecurmudgeon7350

There's only like 8-12 'Good' Disney games in 16 bit era between the SNES and Genesis. Disney on NES only really has DuckTales, Little Nemo, Darkwing Duck and Rescue Rangers...the other stuff is passable.
@elishariedlinger559

@@thecurmudgeon7350 Yep. I am collecting those ones. I also forgot to mention that I am trying to get the good SMS Disney games. Not just the US ones, but also the Japan only ones also. Some of the games I want to get may not be seen as "good" by everyone but I still want to get those. Example: Pinocchio for Genesis. These are the 16bit ones I have left to get: - Jungle Book (Genesis) - Pinocchio (Genesis) - Goof Troop (SNES) - QuackShot: Starring Donald Duck (Genesis) - Donald: Maui Mallard in Cold Shadow (SNES) - Donald Duck no Mahou no Boushi (SNES) - Mickey Mania (Sega CD). Here are the 8bit games I have left to get: - Chip ‘N Dale Rescue Rangers 2 (NES) - DuckTales 2 (NES) - Little Nemo (NES) - Deep Duck Trouble: Starring Donald Duck (SMS).

Pipe dream for me is to finally get a universal optical drive emulator that simply loads each disc straight into an ultra low latency RAM cache, with enough cache to hold say 5 at a time, this would preserve your discs much more, offer very low latency I/O performance, make save-states possible for the first time ever in real-hardware for optical based consoles, and perhaps other benefits too. it would be amazing to have this for PC systems also.
@WWammyy

Some PS2 games still work better on an original or burned disc compared to OPL. OPL also doesn't support PS1 games a modchip would mean you could play PS1 burned backup's at least. OPL is great 99% of the time but it's not perfect

Playing PS1 with an Xstation, on a CFW PS3, or on a PSP or Vita/PSTV way more worth it than burning discs lol. Using a PS2 as a PS2 is the way to go. I really hope they release an ODE for the PS2 one day just for PS1 reasons
@WWammyy

@@BrianBorkowski If you have the space for it yes. Having the modchip with the option to burn a CD instead of having to pull out a whole entire another console to play PS1 games is the better option for me

I use a mod chip in all my ps2s, it's an easy solution for me to do I can continue to play multi region PS1 and PS2 games. Plus it can directly boot into OPL, so a little more streamlined.

Like I said to you and Tito last weekend, Tito will be costing me almost $500. in parts to mod my system. I didn't even think mod chip though. I play what I own, and I do have a bunch of imports. Dang, I gotta get working!
@sgdude1337

I do think a mod chip is needed in a fully loaded ps2. The reason would be to play ps1 cd-rs. Personally I have a X-Station ps1 so I don’t need it but if you’re going to use the “fully loaded” label then you may as well check that box

Bear in mind RGB that the PS2 Slim doesn't have full PS1 compatibility, doesn't have the OG PS1 sound hardware, and actually uses emulation for PS1 games, its awsome for PS2 games though, but does not offer the best PS1 experience, it also has FPS drops and latency issues for PS1, a bunch of issues really, funny enough, the Dreamcast emulates some PS1 games better than the PS2 Slim does, which is mental.
@Wobble2007

It uses POPS to emulate PS1 btw, to run PS1 games, slim PS2 performs PS1's CPU, GTE (Geometry Transfer Engine), MDEC (Motion Decoder) and SPU through emulation on the PS2's CPU, and because of the lack of PS1 hardware (SPU1), it can not play PS2 games that made use of the awesome PS1 sound chipset, the PS1's SPU was a powerhouse and outclasses the PS2 SPU2 in some ways, hence why it is made use of for PS2 games, I would also say the PS2 Phat has better a better audio DAC than the PS2 Slim, if you own a PSP, you are better using that for PS1, as Sony didn't cheap out and included the original PS1 MIPS CPU as well as including the SPU, hence the PSP is 100% perfectly compatible with the full PS1 library, and you can play it in line doubled 480p mode through the official component cable, which will give you the best possible looking PS1 games on real-hardware that is available (unless you count the MiSTer). And as a nice bonus, this will give you a native way to play PS1 games in 480p via a CRT VGA monitor via Sync-on-Green, which actually massively increases the fidelity of PS1 games (much like the DC's VGA mode, though that is native 480p rendering not line-doubled), also great for widescreen patched PS1 games if you own a progressive scan widescreen CRT TV
