My grandad was a Lewis gunner during WW1 in the British army, he fought at both major Arras battles and saw the first mass use of tanks at Cambrai as well, we still have his Military Medal in the family too he got that for taking out two German machine gun posts before several others made him get back into a bomb crater where he sat for two days before getting back to his own trenches. There must be countless unsung acts from both sides now lost to history.

This one's not lost to history, John. My Granddad was in DLI (Durham Light Infantry) on the Western Front. I read to him as a kid. He slept in a bed downstairs and walked around, when he could get himself out of bed, in his Long John underpants. He had this huge hole/crater in the middle of his chest. He caught a bullet and the medics scooped out flesh, bone and bullet, patched him up then sent him back to Blighty. A few months later he was sent to the Italian Front. After serving there, he was repatriated, then sent to Western Front, Passchendaele, where he was gassed but survived only to spent the rest of his days gasping for every breath. He was granted ten shillings a week by the generous British government. This payment lasted for twelve months then he was on his own, work or starve. Fortunately, the British Legion stepped in and he received half a crown every month. He and my Nan hawked fruit on the street to survive. I have a copy of his military service along with many anecdotes from Nan and my dear old Mother (all passed away).

I thought the X95 was standard in the IDF, but all the soldiers I see in the news lately are carrying M4 Carbines.

Just for the record: Swiss GP 90 was already smokeless. It was supposed to be compressed BP but when the Lebel came out it was converted to smokeless once the Swiss figured out the chemistry.

The word Zastava is Serbian & Croation. The accent goes on the last syllable: Zaŝta-vá. They make really solid, reliable weapons.
