It's just that before he was sometimes getting permission by having his people ask the artist's people and he was told by his label that Coolio had given permission, so when Coolio denied giving permission, Al decided that he needed to get permission directly from the artist to avoid any miscommunication.

+thuffman15 True, he doesn't have to ask permission to make a parody but he has stated several times that it's just how he likes to do it. In fact, stupid as it is to get offended by him doing a parody of your song, his way is the polite way to go about it. He doesn't want to piss off people, again, stupid as their reason may be, so if they don't want a parody made then no biggie. Personally I think it says a lot about him and that's one of the reasons people, even in the industry, love him. I also think it's the same reason he will never release a Prince parody song.
