Its amazing enough that Kurt liked the parody Weird Al did but even more amazing that he asked if it was gonna be about food, which means Kurt was an obvious fan of Weird Al and knew his music.

@@Junkhead_210 eh kurt didn't seem to be big into the marketting and publicity of music. He seemed to very much be still in the underground mindset of not wanting to sellout. @ScratchyBarkerAnim8

@@DownUnderPunk Nirvana were certainly the first band to break through the glass ceiling and bring alternative music to the mainstream, no argument there. Alternative music has a myriad of influences but I would say the Pixies were the first band to really utilise the quiet/loud dynamics that would become the 'grunge' template. Kurt himself would acknowledge this, and also the influence of the Melvins. Not having a go by the way, I love Nirvana, they're my favourite band, but to say they invented a genre does a disservice to other great bands.

Offspring refused "laundry day" parody of "come out and play". They called it "silly" (duh). Yes he played it live on the Bad Hair Day tour, but he was refused permission to release it as an official parody. Later they agreed to "pretty fly for a rabbi". As someone else noted, Eminem refused a video. And Coolio and Flea said negative things about Al's parodies of their work. What I wrote was true, except mistaking the Eminem refusal for a song instead of a video.
