Most of these were slaves ; more than four hundred slaves participated in the conquest of Peru and Chile alone.

@@historyrinnumbers Here's another forgotten history... Source: The Cambridge Modern History Volume 10 Edited by A.W.Ward Publ 1907 Page 263 In 1630 the Indians of the cercado of Lima are described as "instructed in policy and Christianity and españolizados so that they seem like Spaniards; they live in 200 houses and have among them eighty negro slaves, more than are owned by all the other Indians in Peru." _____________ It is a fact that Peruvian Indians in the 17th - 18th centuries owned blk slaves. They actually preceded the North American Indians (five civilized tribes).

💯 They weren’t just mercenaries for Spaniards -they changed their names converted to Catholicism wore their clothing. The Spaniards in their retelling of how they invaded the Americas focused on how they had superior weapons, armored horses and attack dogs to kill the indigenous ppl BUT they minimized the presence of the many Africans helping fight alongside them against the indigenous ppl.
