Not only grasshopper but also silkworm pupa (かいこのさなぎ) and black hornet larva (ハチノコ、蜂の子) are food in Nagano prefecture. Above those are also cooked as tsukudani. In modern Japan, insect food is just old and local food culture. As your friends hesitated to eat grasshopper, many Japanese people (particullary, young) also do. Enjoy local food and life of Nagano prefecture!

Already had grasshoppers. It’s pretty good. Really depends on how you cook it though. You can hear the crunch lol.

They have it but only at certain grocery stores where I am. I think in Tokyo tho you can find it at konbini’s
