Lord Sakazuki what does this have to do with the 1900’s..? anyone who reads sheet music will probably cringe at the tattoo lol edit: i see they deleted their comment so to make my response make sense, they said something along the lines of, “who cares? this isn’t the 1900’s”. edit pt.2: the person who got the tattoo probably isn’t trained or well-versed in reading sheet music. a lot of people will just look up the chords instead of reading sheet music while they’re playing an instrument like guitar or piano. It’s pretty common. I imagine them as someone that just rly loves the art of music & wants to get a tattoo that symbolizes that. even if you don’t read sheet music you can still get a staff tattoo symbolic of music- + that would explain why they didn’t recognize the mistakes. It doesn’t mean they know nothing about music… that’s kinda contradictory given the context...

As someone who’s never gotten a tatt, watching this show, and the mess ups just reenforces my decision to not get them. I like well thought out and meaningful tatts, I just know myself, and would hate it after a week.

I feel like you are less likely to get those types of mess ups in real life. There is much less pressure when it's not a competition Just put work into finding YOUR artist that specializes in the style you want

I drew my own tattoo...was just doodling in my notebook. and was like wow I like this. colored it in...took the picture to the shop. the artist took my picture home made a stencil, straightened the lines and put that baby on my back. edit: I was "doodling" as part of a grieving process...so my tattoo is meaningful..it's abstract. I guess my point is if you have an idea of what you want. do your best to draw it and explain your vision to the artist. wait for the artist to come back with the stencil and see if their interpretation captures what you want. look at their portfolio online to see their application. I lucked out. I went to the only tattoo shop in town, paid the man and he nailed it.

which is why you thoroughly look at the stencil first, then think about the placement and really make sure that is where you want the tattoo, and check up on the tattoo while being tatted to keep the artist from fucking up too badly

This is why I'd never get a tattoo - between the ages of 16 to 18 I had planned and drew sketches of a whole arm sleeve and then I turned 18 and realised I didn't really like the sketches so much... Over time I realised I'm FAR too indecisive to get something permanently, like I've literally had nightmares where I've gotten tattoos and regretted it. I'd rather just do pen doodles and eyeliner Tatt's and henna than commit to a real tattoo. I love the art form though. My best friend is RIDDLED with tattoos and I love finding new ones on her, she's my favourite art piece ❤

these people are literally acting like there aren’t people attached to the place they are tattooing. they are criticizing the tattoos infront of the person who had that tattoo permanently marked on them and call these humans “canvases” edit: fixed misspellings

I somewhat agree, although the "canvases" signed up for it and know exactly what they are getting into (and can always say no) I think the language surrounding the tattoos and clients is just very dramatized for the show

Also, by what I've watched, when "a canvas" can't tolerate the pain and the tattooer simply can't finish the tattoo, the judges criticize the tattooer.

I know where you're coming from but I kinda disagree. The people who are getting tattooed signed up for it; they know what the competition implies, which is criticism of the tattoo even during the process, so the artist can get what's wrong before finishing. And about the canvas thing, I think it's not that deep. Artists call canvases the surface they do their art on. A tattooer's canvas is a human. However, I do think that the artists should not be mad or overly criticize the canvas if it's feeling a lot of pain. They are humans too, and if they're in pain it's not their fault, but the tattooer's.

it honestly makes sense how hard the judges are on them, if you think about it not everyone will go to the same tattoo artist all the time so having to match a different artist makes sense but it also sucks that the judges say some finished pieces suck when art takes all different forms

I could not believe that JP complained about the stretch marks on the guy’s butt. He placed the tattoo more on the hip than the butt, so he had room to place it in another spot. Unless their entire butt was covered in stretch marks, it could be moved to avoid that. Idk why people would give themselves that extra challenge in a competition

I think the biggest issue with the face of the queen is that there is no indent where the forehead and browbone come down to meet the nasal cavity and cartilage in the nose. She looks like a traditional playing card, which is dope as hell; but that missing indent makes her look a bit odd when it's done in American traditional (though this borders on neo traditional). Against the line work and color (both of which are pretty strong), the softness of her face does a bit of a disservice to the tattoo, especially when it's placed up against the king. Otherwise it's a beautiful tattoo outside of some line work issues. This is all my opinion though. I don't have portrait tattoos, even traditional ones. I see where both tattoos are stunning, but they don't work perfectly because of how soft the queen looks.
