Wekiwa Springs State Park, our first experience RV Living Full Time, mid February 2020. Come swim in the 72 degree crystal clear spring waters, watch the Ranger feed a baby gator and a snake at the Nature Center, walk along trails and boardwalks, visit Sand Lake, see Ruben the Raccoon thief, and ride in a canoe to Wekiva Island. And of course swim with Mermaids.
We wanted our first experience as new full time RVers to be special. So we drove away from our home of 23 years and went to Wekiwa Springs State Park & Campground. We wanted to experience The Real Florida. Well, plus MERMAIDS!
“With emerald springs feeding the Wekiwa River and lush tropical hammocks, this unique park just minutes from downtown Orlando is perfect for observing abundant wildlife or cooling off on a summer day.
Miles of trails beg to be explored on foot, bike or horseback, and canoes and kayaks are available on-site. It’s easy to see why visitors have been flocking to beautiful Wekiwa Springs since the mid-19th century.
Wekiwa Springs has a special place in the hearts of those lucky folks who grew up nearby, spending weekends exploring the spring vent and paddling canoes past the purple blooms of pickerelweed.
Orange County’s longest-running tourist attraction, the azure waters of Wekiwa Springs have been a popular leisure retreat. From the dense, almost tropical hammocks near where the springs feed into the Wekiva River to the scenic sandhill uplands, the park is rife with opportunities to see many kinds of animals.”

Wekiva Island, a short canoe ride away from the park.
“We are proud to be Central Florida’s favorite watering hole. Located just north of Orlando, our indoor/outdoor recreation complex is the best place to enjoy Florida’s natural springs. We invite you to experience the pristine Wekiva River and its year-round wildlife by canoe, kayak or paddleboard. Our spacious 2,000-square-foot area also offers many activities for landlubbers, like volleyball, cornhole and a picturesque boardwalk that overlooks the river. Unwind with daily drink specials at The Tooting Otter craft beer and wine bar, enjoy a bite to eat at Without A Paddle Café or shop for uniquely Floridian gifts and souvenirs at the General Store. Cabana rentals are available for group outings and celebrations of all kinds. We are family owned & operated and our facility is environmentally friendly.”
