Saw this video 10 years ago and I cried. I've been home now 50 years now and everytime I see a Vietnam Vet I Welcome them Home because I wasn't. I display my Big Red One ball cap with pride and I shared this video with my children. But it's okay that was our generation and now wars still continue and I welcome them home also.

Oh my god. I have been searching for this for decades. My dad is a Vietnam Vet, he and a bunch of vets and family of those MIA tried to return to Vietnam in around 85 or so, they had tons of fundraisers and gatherings. They left for their return journey, trying to encourage the return and finding those MIA. Unfortunatley they could not get to Vietnam, they made it to Thialand. They talked with diplomats and news, but were refused entry to Vietnam. When they returned from Thialand we had a huge welcome home party for them, one to give them the welcome they did not get when they returned in the 60s and 70s. They flew into DC and the entire trip back (we are in PA) they had police and fire escorts all the way back. Then we were all waiting and as they all entered the building, this song played. This was one of the most special time periods of my life! Im crying. My sweet dad is now 74, he has had his share of nightmares, of days of being unreachable. He became a counselor who worked almost exclusively with Veterans. Somehow through the years he has come to terms with that war. He has had so many health issues, he is frail these days, physically, but mentally he is still the badass vietnam vet, who scoured the tunnels in vietnam. He is my hero. All of you are my heros. Thank you all, and most importantly WELCOME HOME.

It is a bittersweet welcome, long delayed for the wrongly-maligned Vietnam veterans. There should be a continuous honoring of all Vietnam veterans on a specific day of the year.

What I always remember is how many people believe the Memorial, when it's design was initially unveiled, believed it would be a disaster, myself included - all I know is I wasn't standing in front of that wall for more than 10 seconds before I started bawling - an incredible powerful reminder.

The vietnam war was a horrendous political miscalculation, but I'm glad this memorial was able to provide some sort of solace. I also think of it as a reminder to carefully analyze all the circumstances of a situation before considering warfare as an option. Peace is the best victory, life is chaotic enough.

Yes, they do. My friend and his brother were in the same airborne company. They were mistakenly dropped in front of enemy lines and were fired on as soon as they hit the ground. His brother was shot immediately and he had to run for cover and watch while his brother died in front of him. Forty years later, he is still dealing with that image. I'm not sure why you would doubt someone else's memory, but please don't post such baseless trash.

The reason there are more weclome homes for Vietnam is because they did NOT get a heros welcome. They were spit upon and treated terribly for a war they didnt want, but had to go. They never got a shred of a heros welcome until the 80s finally. WW1, WW2 and even korean war vets were called heros the entire time. That said, they all, every one of them, are heros. Beautiful men and women who paid the price for freedom, the government and oil through these years. I thank them all.

when the communist won. many of those Vietnamese soldiers who fought for their country along with the Aussie, New Zealanders and the US were killed in re education camps by the thousands. I know a family in our dental practice who was save from going to these communist camp and the killing field of Laos. but he lost his dad to those killers. they were asked by they killed the whole families when and if they got the chance and they told a court one time when they were on trail, that no one forgets the killing of a family member and in order not to be killed by any one of the child or grandchild you destroy the whole family. they did not feel any remorse. do not compare other countries to a communist run country. they worship the government and view the people as slaves to the elites that run the government. they can do whatever they want to the slaves of the land
