I swear, landing the dinghy on the beach has got to be one of the most underrated cruiser techniques. Taking off with it in a bit of surf even more underrated! High 5 from Halifax!

Seen two different cruising channels where they went overboard and got hit by the prop. Other one was wearing kill switch cable exactly like you around the wrist and it slipped out and didn’t kill the engine and he got hitten pretty bad by the prop. I’m quilty wearing it that way too. Now trying to clip it on belt or something but not always easy when just wearing swimming gear…

Our first trip in our Morgan OI 41 was from Marco Is. to the Dry Tortuga's. We went overnight in a cold front downwind, no AP, no dodger with two couples in Feb., 1980. The holding ground east of the fort is tricky because it slopes rapidly deeper towards the fort. If an easterly causes you to drag you won't reset. We were OK as the wind blew 30+ out of the north the next day. It was too rough for our 10 ft Avon inflatable and Seagull outboard to go ashore. The wind got under the wing of a float plane as he was taxiing to the beach and almost flipped him. When the wind is strong from the east the anchorage gets rolly at high tide as some swell gets over the reef. A 17 ft Boston Whaler pulled up on the west beach with two families with several kids. Where had they come from?. Out in the lagoon about a mile was anchored a 70 ft. Shrimp trawler out of Ft. Myers. It was brand new and owned by the two families and it's not yet used hold was outfitted to accommodate the families on a vacation before it went to work.

@@CalicoSkiesSailing I think it' has the same patronage. It's a senior post for rangers that bid on positions. The guests have more interest. There used to be a navigable channel between the fort and Bird island. You could still climb the big lighthouse then. There was a huge mooring buoy off the old coal platform where Ralph Evinrude and his wife Francis Langford would moor 118 ' yacht Chanticleer. Dr. Mudd was guilty.

04:40 Bill is standing on a brightly sunlit deck with his headlamp on. Sort of like people driving down the expressway leaving the left blinker on... The Dry Tortugas look so pristene on video but is it being kept that way? It looked like the lighthouse is powered by renewable low impact solar as many are today. Behind the fort is what I assume to be a cellular tower site that's unlikely to run on solar. Is there a diesel generator droning away 24x7 to power the site? Has the fort had the typical park amenities added: visitor's center, restrooms, electricity and lighting? Keep up the great videos and above all STAY SAFE! ⛵❤️😷

😂 sure he was working on something and came up on deck lol. It’s pretty clean and pristine at DT. There no cell service so prob saw a radio antenna. The run generator for power on the island
