I've heard this story before and thought long and hard about it. Aside from the ever popular alien abduction theories. I think that they perhaps encountered an extremely localized severe weather event known as a downburst (there is some extremely rare footage of one floating around the internet if your curious...to my knowledge it's the only one ever filmed, that's how rare they are.), but they are extremely violent and powerful with tornadic/hurricane force winds that blow straight down in a small area less than a mile wide and can accompany or follow severe storms, this could cause very large waves to form the size of tsunamis or rogue waves and being so localized the rest of world might not have noticed.

Ultimately my heart very much belongs to Middle Earth, Narnia, Amber, Klaah, Lodoss, Hogwarts, Hyrule, and mostly the fantasy realm. I've definitely heard the story of this lighthouse and appreciate this logical approach to what happened. I am an American from the state of Michigan. If unfamiliar it's the state that looks like a mitten and is surrounded by inland seas we call the Great Lakes. Therefore we have tons of lighthouses. I've never thought of them as creepy or scary. I've grown up respecting them for the safety they provide. In this state a lighthouse tour is something considered fun and historical. You don't need a rogue wave to explain the damage. As someone from a country heavily battered by typhoon yearly, wind alone can cause such damage. Back in high school, there was a relatively strong typhoon and it bended metal poles that was used to fence the tennis court. Even concrete houses and building can be damage if the situation if favorable. Now, imagine if it was in the middle of an ocean and that time, materials might not be as good as what we have in the present.

Another solitary option is to be a fire look-out in a national forest. The number of fire tower opportunities to lighthouse opportunities is significantly higher.

I can’t imagine the solitude getting to me… I love to read and take naps, neither require company, and if I had some pets with me, maybe a dog and cat, I’d be quite content.

Oh wow, that must be why the The Lighthouse with Willem Dafoe and Robert Pattinson was so crazy!! I was wondering where that came from.

I have a little tweak to the rogue wave theory- I think a hurricane makes more sense and explains the damage to the iron gate and even train tracks ripped out of the ground. We see that type of damage often with hurricanes. It explains the wind and storm so severe that men who were experienced with bad weather were crying. 2 men may have gone out to fix the dock and the other heard/saw the hurricane and ran out to help and were caught in it. It explains how 1 area was destroyed and others nearby weren't as well. Love your channel (and accent)! PS. In the US there are a lot of pics and calendars of lighthouses. Kinda like calendars with scenery on them.

Have y'all ever noticed that sometimes when you softly vibrate a cup of water it will cause one big slosh? Well, apparently it took team of scientists, weeks of research in the Bermuda triangle, and millions of dollars of equipment to figure out that is how rouge waves work.

Afaik rogue waves are generally accepted to be the result of constructive interference between a pair of waves travelling at slightly different speeds. As the waves meet, their speeds slow to match and their amplitudes / significant wave height add together, generally doubling their height
