"You don't need to take a class on it... Just start doing it!" Words of wisdom from Andrew Camarata!!! We should all be so bold!
@JackMacLupus
4 жыл бұрын
And he's right with that! As i was on a school internship at a company that build metal structures like stairs, platforms, metal gates and much more, one day i and a coworker just grabbed the welders because there was nothing else to do on that day (we had been cleaning EVERYTHING before and couldnt continue with work because we were waiting for a delivery) so instead of just sitting around we just took some parts of the scrap box and started to weld them together randomly like art. I never welded before, only watched others weld stuff, but i did it like i really learned it. Even the boss said that my welded parts look almost like he made it himself.

But once you know something, going back and learning it properly is important and helps you learn even more. Learning the proper way has to come eventually, we should all want to do the best we can
@michaelscott-joynt3215

The problem with classes is that it institutionalizes learning. Creatures don't learn by institutions. We learn by doing. However, there's no replacement for meeting someone with a lifetime of experience who could save you years by lending their wisdom. That's how we as people have always done it. Learn by doing but find a master if you can. Plenty of old-timer welders out there. In my high school days one of them came by the auto shop looking for any of us interested in being the next generation. That graybeard had the look of a wizard and probably forgot more about welding than a decent mechanic knows.

Proper way to make gussets for high stress corners like this, is to round the ends, and stop the weld like a 1/4" from the ends of the gusset. Also leave a gap at the inside corner. Allows more even force distribution. Watch out for cracking in the corners and ends, on triangle plates like this. Probably be fine, but if it cracks eventually, that's why. Them sharp corners concentrate force into small hot spots.

I figured the weather or maybe some jobs had Andrew too busy to post some video's. Then I found he had strung a bunch of the castle build videos together. I immediately put in a link to that. Of course after watching the amazing steel fabrication and concrete work several time already I try and jump past some of it. I do have to agree that Andrew needs a break sometimes and we should just sit back and enjoy some old videos to something new comes along. Then just an hour ago there was the Kabota tractor welding job and snowy cleanup of logs and stumps. Love it! Snow don't slow Andy down much. Can't help but think that grappling (whatever it's called) will give Andrew some ideas. Great to see the way he does things so straight forward and well thought out. Love his toys. Terry

That tractor looks really practical for what hes using it for. I had a play in an real old allis-charmers log skidder. It had a full sheet of 3/4 plate across the back of it and that had taken a few good hits and was bent in places. i couldn't believe how maneuverable it was between the pine trees and over rough ground.
