Love how makeup in movies is used to show the evolution of a character. This is way more interesting than just recreating a look from the latest popular show imho!
@Rue994

I agree! I never really thought about this until this video, but it is true and something that is incredibly impactful in how the character is perceived along the journey. Usually you just think a makeup artist will just go as far as doing what works for the outfits they will be wearing, not to affect how the entire audience will be perceiving the character as a whole. You think if they use makeup for this at all, it’s simply to try to change the chronological age of the actor/actress, and not the psyche of them and how the experiences naturally affect the look of the person, or reflects times they are more vulnerable, more uncertain, to more confident, thick skinned, capable… Sam really should make this a series where she chooses characters she finds interesting and recreate look with her input on how she sees them with makeup as a supporting role (if you will.) I think it says a lot she thought this wouldn’t draw in many viewers, yet it’s one of her higher videos regarding views. Must be a larger niche than she had thought😂

What an awesome content idea! I agree with you Dany and Rue. Never really thought about makeup like this before and she put it a lot of great tips and tricks to give a look or work into a makeup look even if you aren’t going for this exactly. How she did her eyes, keeping it so simple, minimalistic, but impactful without going overboard. This is a great way to get that glow or glass skin without buying 50 million products or greasing up your skin- which never looks good in person or even wears well if you are to be going for that look. But I adore the idea of her making this into a series, where she shows how the makeup artist was able to influence the viewers perception of the character’s psyche by makeup alone. I never really gave it much thought until now.

I don't think I could ever convey how immensely entertaining these types of videos are. Watching you geek out over something, especially makeup in such a specific film/scene is very very fun to watch and also quite relatable. I too get caught up in looks that are probably rather random to anyone else watching. Yeah it's not "pretty makeup" as the masses would say but I think it's beautiful (and lets be honest, it's a bit of fun to watch luxury products like Westman Atelier get used in looks they probably never envisioned in the marketing room lol) Thanks so much for continuing to share your creativity and interests in addition to the stuff you "have" to do like the sponspored stuff (which is still lovely to watch). Now I need to dig out some makeup and get to smudging.

Sam will you be doing more videos like this? Showing how makeup is used in how a person is perceived by the audience, whether that being on broadway, in the movies, even on commercials to give and sell customers on a certain persona or status? You think about it and it really does help the audience to visualize and put themselves there or relate, even use time travel by using makeup as a tool to achieve a story line they are after/wanting to convey.

I love this video, I love the whole concept, I love the nerdiness of it. And I love when make up artist pay homage to make up artists in film and tv. I've always thought that Jodie Foster is one of the most beautiful women in Hollywood. She has perfect bone structure, a very sculpted face, high cheekbones, very fine features, And intense blue eyes. The makeup artist and hairstylist really enhanced that pure beauty in the movie. Her pale skin against her dark hair and her beautiful blue eyes just made her look so vulnerable and captured your heart and soul. You just rooted for her from the beginning, incredible contribution of those are to filmmaking
