God this show is so dumb. It makes no sense that trying to contact Booker's ship would somehow make the raiders believe they're working together. In fact, it would be quite the opposite. The raiders should have been wondering why Discovery just lets the non-cloaked ship go with their dilithium without making any attempt to contact or stop them. Also, I get the whole plot about dilithium suddenly going inert and causing warp reactors to explode across the galaxy, but aren't we forgetting something here? The precursor to the warp engine was the impulse engine, which is a significant fraction of light speed, meaning that travel to other planets within the solar system would still be trivial even on a ship without a warp engine equipped. So there's no reason why Earth can't figure out that their greatest threat is coming from a moon three planets away? From a colony that is so messed up that in the 32nd century that can't even send a simple signal to Earth using conventional 19th century radio? But have an armada of pirate ships that keeps Earth on constant alert? Who writes this nonsense?
@friday6448
3 жыл бұрын
travelling between star systems would not be "trivial" at impulse. Even at warp one, travelling to Alpha Centauri, the closest system to Sol, it would take 4 years. To get to Vulcan it would take over 16 years. These are not "trivial" travel times, and that is travelling at warp, at light speed, impulse is exponentially slower than that.

Because warp cores still require dilithium. Matter-antimatter reactions are one of the most efficient power sources. Most substitutes haven't been reliable thus far.
