Pterosaurs (not "Pterodactyls") ruled the skies during the time of the dinosaurs, and included the biggest animals ever to fly - giants like Quetzalcoatlus and Hatzegopteryx had wingspans around 10 metres across! But these wondrous creatures shared the skies with a more familiar flock: the birds.
In the tens of millions of years that birds and pterosaurs coexisted, it's a certainty that they would have interacted in some way or another; indeed, it's far from rare to come across claims that birds were actively outcompeting pterosaurs, steadily chipping away at their dominion of the skies. But how much truth is there to this? Let's find out!
