This extract is from a 1945 news film called ‘West Africa Was There’ which now seems pretty dated. The film follows the progress of the 81st and 82nd (West Africa) Divisions as they advanced south through the Arakan (now known as Rakhine State) in Burma (now Myanmar).
At Ruywa, COPP had carried out reconnaissance and pilotage to assist with the initial landings - carried out by the 25th Indian Infantry Division - on 16 February 1945.
The 2nd West Africa Brigade - part of the 82nd (West Africa) Division - landed from 18-20 February.
The extract includes footage of one of the landing beaches at Ruywa. It shows supplies and reinforcements being brought up the chaungs and landed, and gives an indication of just how small landing-beaches up the Burmese chaungs could be.
