Nestled within the town of West Chester, PA lies a relatively modest tourist railroad, the West Chester Railroad. The normal summer operation consists of 90-minute trips that span about 7 miles, running from West Chester to Glen Mills and return. This video documents the day-in operations with 7706, an EMD GP-38 built in 1969.
The West Chester Railroad traces its roots to the mighty PRR, being located on the railroad's Frazer and Media Branches. Market Street Station served the town until its demolition by Penn Central in 1968, with the line seeing light passenger use by SEPTA until 1986. For the following decade, the line sat abandoned, until a group of rail enthusiasts reinvigorated it. Since then, the mainly volunteer-based railroad has ran excursions to the grove in Glen Mills.
