Walking the West Highland Way trail in Scotland from Rowardennan to Inversnaid. This is the first half of day 3 of my Scotland hiking trip.
I leave the Ben Lomond Bunkhouse in Rowardennan and head out on the West Highland Way. It's a beautiful morning and it isn't long before I see my first waterfall. Actually, I saw at least 4 in the first mile.
Big waterfalls, small waterfalls, water trickling through moss - this is a magical section of trail! Yesterday's rain probably made this even more spectacular than usual.
There are some sections of trail where you cross waterfalls and step on rocks across streams, while still walking along the banks of Loch Lomond. Inversnaid Falls are especially spectacular and it was just past there - roughly halfway through my day - that I stopped to eat.
This is a beautiful section of the West Highland Way - as you'll see in the video - but another tough day (long and rocky).
I'm an American and a solo woman hiker who walked the West Highland Way from Milngavie to Fort William. This is a beautiful trail, and safe to do for solo hikers. It was much more 'civilized' than I'm accustomed to on my hiking and backpacking trips! This was my first trip to Scotland.
Locations: Rowardennan, Ben Lomond Bunkhouse, Inversnaid Falls, Inversnaid
Things you need:
Guidebook: amzn.to/3rBZCeo (The maps in the book are GREAT!)
Map: amzn.to/3MduTOe (The trail is well marked but a 'real' map is great for planning and checking distances)
