Was dating a lovely lady when I lived in Buffalo. Cute, blonde, smart, and deaf. I told her I loved this character on The West Wing. She knew who I meant right away. I knew the alphabet and a few words, but I had a teacher always ready to practice and got pretty good. I was good enough that when we were at the mall and ran into a bunch of her high-school friends (school for the deaf) we were talking and I was doing well keeping up, but at one point I said to slow down using a non-signing kind of the universal “stop” motion. They all looked at each other and rapidly signed. One signed “You aren’t deaf?” “No” I signed. They all smiled and said [Due to your skill] “We thought you were.” I took that as a compliment.
@diogenesesenna9323
3 жыл бұрын
I know that story well. MANY years ago (capitols intentional) I also had a deaf girlfriend who taught me sign language. It's come in extremely useful over the years, and I love the reactions from deaf people (especially children) when they come across some who isn't deaf but can sign. Personally, I think sign should be taught in all schools as a second language. Her mother (who was blind) also encouraged me to learn Braille. This is an interesting point to make since I have relative good eyesight, yet I'm typing this using as Braille Keyboard (It's a geek thing).

1) i understand the feeling when receiving that compliment and won't bother going into why (i'm a life time outsider)--but it sure is a nice feeling, isn't it? 2) I never learned ASL even though i had the opportunity to (truly stupid on my part). Back in junior high we had a deaf student, and the girls in the class all picked up ASL because they realized they no longer had to pass paper messages anymore. Most times when the teacher would turn their back to write something on the chalk board, the girls would lean back in their chairs to be seen by the others and carry on quite the conversation until they heard the teacher stop applying chalk to board.

Why was he snoring here but not in the first episode when he slept at his desk?
@AlekWheeler
5 жыл бұрын
I’m going to over analyze this. So when you fall asleep at your desk, you are usually upright, with your head turned to one side or the other. Whether this can cause snoring is beyond me but for arguments sake, let’s also assume Josh didn’t get blackout drunk the night before he fell asleep at his desk. When he passed out in his office in this episode he’s on the ground on his stomach which is a different position. Me personally, I’ve been known to snore while sleeping on my stomach sometimes, and sometimes not. Also given the fact Josh was clearly blackout drunk leads me to believe he was in a deeper more comatose sleep then when you sleep at your desk. Think of it as shutting down rather than just getting a comfortable rest. Is this the reason? Probably not, but it’s a possibility that, whole complex, sounds a lot better than, oh the writers just screwed up for a hilarious comic timed scene with Josh
