I appreciate that Ben Barnes doesn't just portray surprise or wonder or amazement after everyone freezes - he also portrays just the right amount of fear, almost visceral panic. Which is completely correct, because I think it would be DEEPLY creepy to realize that you're actually completely ALONE in a room, the only living human when you thought you were one in a crowd. There are no other actual people around you. Just androids who can switch off at a moment's notice. You're a lone human standing in a room full of devices.

Not just what he says. Everything he does that isn't speaking is terrific in its own right. Snapping his teeth before "delicious". His facial expressions throughout, but especially his face drifting between awe and abject terror after the trick is revealed. His hands - he touches Angela's shoulder with a note of indulgence, then pulls it away in... horror? Disgust? ...respect? He holds them up in a defensive posture towards the frozen hosts - twice, before succumbing to his baser instincts and passions towards Angela, confirming without a shred of doubt the entire conceit of the park - will a guest, knowing a host is a host, still indulge in the human aspects of the host? The answer was yes, and the park in one night had secured fucking and defended its central thesis. Sheer genius.

The subtle but impactful directing of this show is astounding. I’ve rewatched this scene many times and only just noticed that right when Angela laughs before everyone freezes at 2:56 her finger does the same little flick that Dr. Fords does in that scene from season one when he and Theresa are talking over lunch and the glass of wine overflows when everyone at the chateau and in the fields freeze. Additionally, this scene also had some really long moments without any cuts in editing. Particularly from 1:17 to 2:40 is one long shot of following the camera. Really adds to feeling like you’re there and observing too. So good.

We need the scene directly ahead of this, where Arnold/Bernard is talking to Delores - can't find that anywhere. I think that particular scene actually takes place after Season 2 - we are led to assume Ford is prompting Arnold to let her come to this party, but, was Bernard just hearing Ford's voice and the "job" she was tasked to do had nothing to do with this scene at all - Delores and Bernard are wearing the exact same clothes at the end of season 2 that they are in the episode where he's showing her his house for the first time and having that conversation.
