Season 4 has been phenomenal. Enjoying Westworld so much right now. I think the hosts suiciding themselves is because they all run off Halroes' code which William said last episode. Halores keeps hurting herself when things are not going her way. And this is reflected in the hosts. They interact with a real human who isn't controlled and start questioning things which throws them off.

Hales actress, her impression of Dolores/Wood is spot on. The slow, broken speech. The way she pronounces words.
@danzafrir2900

I think what Halores is missing, and what Dolores realised, is that there is beauty in the world and it has power beyond humans' "programming". Halores sees the chaos and disarray and has chosen Wyatt's path to eliminate humans; Dolores realised that humans' capacity for love and kindness is the saving grace of the species, and what is eventually allowing some humans to resist Halores's parasite. The outliers were always the flaw in the system because they weren't able to gain control of the system - it was taken by ruthless, power-hungry individuals, who were easily exploited by both Ford, Serac, and Halores to bring humanity down. To me, this is a really powerful critique of society today as well - who holds power and why? I think, in a way, what Halores is doing is helping humanity by singling out the outliers and making them fight for the future. It's also made hosts realise that some of humanity wants what Halores wants for the hosts - truth, beauty, transcendence. And hosts are choosing to kill themselves because they realised they're being forced to kill what's good in the world, which is extremely irrational. Halores, from her interactions with Caleb - an outlier - is also infected, as evidenced by her constant scratching. She no longer feels comfortable doing what she's doing because it's not true to her nature, which is seeing the beauty. She's forcing herself to close her eyes to Caleb's devotion to his family, Maeve's devotion to Caleb and her daughter, because it endangers the world she's worked so hard to build. But it's driving her crazy.

@@danzafrir2900 we don’t really know if/when she stopped self harming…there could’ve been multiple MIB during those 23 years. Great wrap-up, I’m loving this season! One thing you didn’t mention that sets Caleb and Maeve apart is genuine love. Their devotion to their kids transcends their love of themselves or any distractions of life. I do think Dolores was on her way to real love of Teddy and her dad, but not all the way there yet. And Charlotte loved her family somewhat, but I don’t think she “got” real love (and scratching her arm reminds her of them and the indescribable something that she’s missing). Note too that the outlier lady on the roof really loved her husband, and the suicidal one (that jumped in front of Dolores/Christina) was distraught about his wife.

I 100 percent agree. That's so obviously it. Hale can't figure them out because she's only looking inward and logically. Love is completely illogical. Loving parents will take a bullet for one of their kids knowing their other kids might starve to death anyway without their parents. That's the kind of illogical human thought process that makes humans unpredictable. Caleb was a really cringe character when he first entered the show and I didn't really like him, but it is nice that he is starting to develop as a character. Telling Hale "We aren't the plague you are. They can't stand being around you so they kill themselves" was utterly ruthless. She even thought about jumping off the building when he said that. Caleb used to be kind of a pushover but they're finally showing the tough side of a lovey dovey hopeless character. It's really nice to see. He seemed like such a marvel super hero basic bitch character, but he's finally getting some grit to him that makes you think feel like he's actually an outlier.

@@user-dc7um4pr3f Agree, I thought Caleb was so wish-washy and boring last season, and this season he is *bringing* the acting and depth of character! Theory Time: Charlotte’s hosts are missing love. Caleb ends his radio broadcast with “I love you.”Love is the unquantifiable quality that Caleb has, and Charlotte lacks. Of course, Maeve is a host that knows love, namely the love for her daughter. However, Maeve‘s programming has been changed to such a degree that she is a host outlier and therefore doesn’t count. I think in the end, the humans and hosts will merge, and they will all be hybrids. The hosts will end up giving up their immortality and control, and they will gain love and individual agency from humans.

@Frida Pavlaski I believe human Charlotte loved her son and presumably her husband for a while. Halores and her host world now is like that peacock that Ford referred to when describing human nature, “I read a theory once that the human intellect was like peacock feathers. Just an extravagant display intended to attract a mate. But, of course, the peacock can barely fly. It lives in the dirt, pecking insects out of the muck, consoling itself with its great beauty.”

It seems that the single biggest difference between the outliers and everyone else, is LOVE. Caleb loves Frankie, and the others have similar relationships. But so too do Delores (with Teddy), Maeve (Hector), Bernard (Charlie), as opposed to Hale who is acting out of vengeance for loss, not love. And William never loved anybody; he just wanted to possess them.

Bernard's revelation that Stubbs was the traitor in one predicted outcome was a perfectly missed opportunity for Stubbs to say the first "F*** you Bernard" for the season. It's literally the unofficial catchphrase of the series. Since you mention Bernard invoking "Through the looking glass," notice that when he syncs up the new system to transfer Maeve's data the cards on the table are the Queen of Hearts and the three of Spades.

'Westworld' Season4 Episode 6 eerily recalls a host of Dick'ian imagery where the multiple versions of Caleb echo P.K.Dick's Joe Chip character. Chip slowly realises that he is dreaming of the struggle of multiple selves and multiple storylines from within a cyrogenic suspended animation facility in the sci-fi novel 'UBIK'. 🙄😳😟 Thanks for your easter-egg spotting!

My theory: 279 Caleb is the complete version by Halores. Since 279 now has 'the piece' which was missing from the previous copies. And that piece would be Caleb's apology and love statement to Frankie. Halores intentionally put a little hope to Clone-Caleb in order to make him whole as Human-Caleb was. That's why when Halores told 279 to wake up, he (in my opinion) is immediately responsive and kinda has different vibe.. Yes, Westworld is my #1 sci-fi TV show at this moment.

Hale says to Caleb, "You are not the only one who lost something," which I'm guessing refers to real Hale's family. She wanted to be her and killed and replaced her, bc she had human feelings. She could have replaced her body, but she keeps those burn scars to remind her of their deaths. All the hosts that have free will now are susceptible to these feelings too. Once they talk to an outlier with feelings of sadness or despair, they see that they feel it as well...causing them to harm themselves.

Hale said that they have perfected their kind with immortality etc. But it seems living an endless, monotonous loop, rehashing the same questions, and getting the same answers, is worse than mortality. I wonder is there any chance that the 'real' Caleb is being held like the 'real' William, in some form of stasis? A backup to finding the reason for outliers incase the immortal versions are somehow 'infected'?
@Megafreakx3

for some reason, I thought Caleb was going to say something to Hale about what he has that she doesn’t and why he’s different from the others..… LOVE and Family. That’s honestly why Halores is so bitter. Her family was her cornerstone, but they were murdered. She hates humanity because she thinks ALL of them are inherently destructive. She can’t see the good in humanity because all she experienced was hate. Caleb’s will to survive is driven by his family. Hale knows this, but that triggers her to the core. Because she will never have what he has.

yeah, that seemed something that was kind of simplistic, cliched plot point. Or something like that. But that was minor detail in otherwise fun episode.

@@SorbusAucubaria Let's be honest, the whole Jay-Frankie dynamic this episode was highly simplistic. Why did host Jay leave Maeve's side if that's all he was after?
