I've got to admit, the new Max Lens Mod 2.0 totally piqued my interest, and I couldn't resist when the new HERO Black 12 became available.
Expanding the field of view was already cool with the old Max Lens Mod, but the limitation to 2.7k was a bit of a downer. The 4K with up to 60FPS is a significant leap in image quality.
Of course, the Max Lens Mod 2.0 still has its limitations. For example, the new G-Log color mode isn't available. However, the traditional flat color profile gives me enough room for color grading in post-production.
By the way, this video isn't a review, a comparison, or any kind of advertisement. I just thought some of you out there would like to see mountain biking footage with the Max Lens Mod without a lot of talking.
I mounted my GoPro using a Chin Mount on my Full Face Helmet. I shot the footage in Hyperview mode with a flat color profile. ISO Min 100 and ISO Max 1600. This setup produces some usable motion blur in the woods and shadows.
I must say, the image stabilization is extremely good now. You hardly see the image jitter in low-light areas that you used to get with models up to the 10.
By the way, this exception happened on the cool downhill line of the Wexl Trails.
