Song: Fitz & The Tantrums - HandClap
First of all, thanks everyone for all the positive (and some critical) feedback I received on this video. I honestly didn't expect it to blow up the way it did (my previous video had 30 views and two likes, both from myself). Thanks so much! If my video inspired you to play Mercy differently, I'm very honored and humbled. And to my new subscribers, thank you! I'll try to post interesting Mercy vids every once in a while! I'm sorry if I haven't been able to reply to all comments. If you want to ask me something personally you can tweet at me (@Animetic)!
I know a lot of people have questions relating to this video, so I'll try to answer them here:
Q: Abandoning your team just to get the PotG big res is not good Mercy play.
A: It's not very clear in the video because of the music, but I start walking away because I heard Zarya+Genji ults or Zarya+Hanzo ults go off. No amount of healing will save my team in that scenario. So my choices were either to stay and die with the team, or to hide and res them all.
Q: Anyone can look good by condensing down 400 hours of gameplay into a 3 minute highlight reel.
A: All clips in this video were recorded in the past two weeks of playing. So the title refers to the fact that I have played 400+ hours of Mercy when recording these clips (including ~60 hours in comp and some more in the beta).
Q: Really? But how come you're level 20 in some of these clips.
A: That's a silver portrait. It's what comes after bronze 5 stars + 100 levels.
Q: All of these are easy/unskilled opponents.
A: I would say that the level of play varies, definitely. However, my hidden MMR in quick play is such that I get matched up against top 500 players more often than not. At least one of the ulting Genjis that I killed is a top 500/golden sword Genji main (Hi JINX :)). Also, there are times where I just get flashbanged and destroyed by McCrees, but obviously I don't include those clips here.
Q: The pistolwhipping highlights are fun, but I'd rather see some full length games of Mercy play.
A: Then you should check out some of the other videos on my channel. :)
Q: What is your skill rating in competitive?
A: I haven't played comp in S2 yet because my team disbanded near the end of S1. But in S1 I was rank 75.
Q: Why haven't you played competitive in S2 yet?
A: My team disbanded and I don't feel like soloqueueing. I'm way too shy to talk to strangers on voice, which is what you need at higher rankings. I'll probably start comp in S3 again.
Q: Why is this all quick play games?
A: Because I haven't played comp yet this season. See the answer above..
Q: Can I send you a friend request/What is your battletag?
A: If you really want to, I'm sure you can figure out how to send me a friend request. I'm nearing my friend limit but I'll likely accept. :)
Q: What is with the weird keybinds?
A: I have a rather large mouse pad so to not have the keyboard overlapping it, I use the right side of the keyboard (yghj instead of wasd).
Q: Is that the real Tseini/Tazzerk?
A: Yes, we group up sometimes.
Q: What is your sensitivity/DPI settings?
A: 1600 DPI and 3.24 in-game sens. About 10.5 inches per 360.
Q: What Mercy-specific hero settings do you use?
A: I just use the default settings for Mercy.
Q: Do you play on EU or NA?
A: EU.
Q: Why don't you use damage boost often?
A: Unless your team mate is ulting, I find it to be more dps just spamming with the pistol, especially if you can hit the head shots. I do try to boost high energy Zaryas, ulting Genjis/soldiers/Road hogs/Reapers/etc., nanaboosted people, Road Hog when he hooks someone, Rein during Firestrike, Bastion, and so on. Also note that the damage boost beam can give your position away (as do pistol shots, for that matter). Sometimes I have the heal beam on someone when they're at full health (rather than the boost beam) because I expect incoming damage.
Q: All times in the video are in the AM. Why do you only play after midnight?
A: I work during the day and usually study in the evenings. So that's the time that I have left. So I do have a job but I don't have to get up really early in the mornings, and I don't need a lot of sleep. That explains the level I guess, lol. :p
More general Mercy questions:
Q: I play Mercy and I don't know when I should heal or when I should hide.
A: A good rule of thumb is to heal at a safe distance (you should never get caught in a Zarya ult with the rest of your team for example), preferably out of line of sight of your enemies, and slip away when you hear the enemy team ulting.
Q: I play Mercy and I don't know when I should use the pistol.
A: I whip out the pistol when I'm being attacked directly. Because healing or flying to someone else won't make the damage on me stop. I'll fly to a teammate if possible.
