Hey Ryan, I’ve got to say your videos are really quite good. I’ve enjoyed watching “Do It Again” and the Planetshakers tutorials you’ve done. The cool harmonics trick on this video you do at 2:20 is epic and I plan to implement it in my “bag-o-tricks” at my church. Keep up the great work and I pray the LORD continues to bless you, your bass playing skills and your family for all days to come.

I wish, the bass line would acousticly be better discernable, which would mean to mix the song itself in a les volumous way.

I have a question for you 🙋♂️ . How do you get that long sustain in the bass guitar. My sound seems to fade away quickly instead of a long sustained sound. Are you using a pedal? Or how do I achieve that tone?
@WorshipTeamResources
8 ай бұрын
You can use a compressor to help with the sustain. Also, lowering the pickups away from the strings is a trick to increase sustain (it lessens the magnetic effect that can slow the string's ability to vibrate).

They are the ones that came stock from Fender- nothing special (I'm assuming Fender brand strings). They are lights though.

Nice job. I know this is a pretty mellow, slow song, but it illustrates one of the issues I've had with contemporary worship music for years. In so many of the compositions, the bass lines are just lame and completely neglected. It's almost as if the bass line to these songs is an afterthought and not considered very critical. Mostly, they consist of just pounding out the root notes with an occasional complimentary slide. Once in a while, a daring bass player might even hit a note that's not a root note and then pray the walls of the church don't come crashing down, right? I played on a worship team for about a year and a half, and was being constantly told to just keep it simple, nothing "fancy", just stick to the roots. It became so frustrating that it was one of the issues that prompted me to leave the worship team. I know we don't want to Over-Play on any song, but still, so many of these worship songs leave enormous room for expanding the bass line and it's a shame it's not utilized more often.

Agreed. I have started playing bass at youth and also learning songs we do in church (I've been playing for about 5 years) and it is all fairly basic. It would be nice to have some more interesting bass lines.
