I have found that Trekkies' opinions about different media in Star Trek is often incredibly subjective and unreliable. But TNG fans in particular can sometimes be kind of toxic. TNG the show has its share of bad execution, continuity errors, and lazy and/or sexist creative decisions. But that doesn't stop the entire fandom from enjoying the media the way that TNG die-hards complain to this day about other Trek media--the TNG films, DS9, Voyager, or even Discovery. I think your open mind is a healthy way to deal with the fandom, who can sometimes be toxic.

It was sweet too because the bridge crew poker scenes were a running past time in many episodes for everyone but Picard - so seeing him join the table with his friends and dropping the formality of Captain at the table was just beautifully unexpected and touching as a fade out.

@@trekkiejunk It makes no difference. Picard always acted with integrity. Even in the new show, there is that sense. Finding out that he lead an evacuation fleet is everything that is needed to know, and Picard becoming Admiral to do so is very much in line with what Picard would do. What you are stating is what every Batman fan had with the Dark Knight Returns graphic novel. Many fans had the same sentiments with that story that you have with Star Trek Picard. At its best, Star Trek's strengths are its contemplative scifi plots that make you think, characters that get you emotionally attached and make you feel, and this episode is honestly just a great example of both. Heads up. It doesn't come up in Generations, but after that story, Worf is assigned to Deep Space Nine (and therefore the show). They have to consciously give him reasons why he's around in the Next Generation movies. Without knowing this, his absence at the start of First Contact and how he enters the story would be really confusing. How it brings full-circle Encounter at Farpoint with Judge 'Q', the return of Tasha Yar and the regrets some of the crew has- with the ability to change the timeline; including the so touching scene at the end when Picard comes in the Poker room, looks at everyone individually and says "I should have done this a long time ago" and Deanna responds "You were always welcome"- so heart-warming but that's Picard admitting that as Captain, he could have mingled with the Bridge crew during rest periods instead of being the headstrong 'I'm the Captain so can't have personal relationships with the crew'.

P.P.S which classes are you taking on winter quarter/term/intercession? American universities are not sll on the same type of time-frame. A big portion are on the semester system with 12'-16 weeks of instruction in a term. Some schools on a semester system have short brief winter terms known as intercession for the studious self motivated student, and they can be as short as 2-4 weeks. In Washington state, most universities and community colleges are on the quarter system, which 10 - 11 week terms. Summer term is shorter at 8 weeks and doesn't have a dedicated week for finals like Fall. Winter, and Spring. Some schools are on a semester system also offer some shorter classes lasting 8 or 10 weeks in addition to their normal 16 week classes. Semesters can be cruel since it means math classes can teach every topic in the book and English classes can require 7 essays or a 14 esearch paper and 4 shorter essays. Quarter systems leave the instructor pressed for time, which makes it impossible to cover every math topic. English classes will generally only assign 3 or 4 essays. In community colleges in Washington state, the research paper get its own class instead of speaking it into English 101. However, California community college students who want to go to a UC or even CSU will need to partake in a 3 course english sequence- 1A,1B,1C or 1A, or CSU 1A 1B. 2. I know the numbers don't mean anything to you sonve you're in Canada. Here's the translation: tge California system is hard. Washington state schools may nit even require a 2 class English sequence. However, if you want an AA transfer degree, English 101 and 102 (research paper) is required. However, even in the UW doesn't require English 102 (English 182 at UW). Generally community colleges have a general numbering system that is consistent across each state. Hence all CC's on this state will offer English 101 and 102 but universities may call it something totally different. But since numbers are consistent across cc's st a state, it makes it easier for universities to offer articulation agreements on classes that transfer. In fact, in our system in Washington, an & in a class name means its college level AND a transfer class that universities will accept as transfer credit AND probably will have an equivalency i.e English &101. Whereas, California community colleges code their classes differently. They don't include ampersands. You won't see EWRT& 1A. They just call it EWRT 1A. In fact, numbers in the single and double digits are usually college classes and numbers reserved for 100 to 200 are remedial. Additionally, since California is so big southern California community colleges have a slightly different number system from northern California. Instead of English 1A, community colleges in Southern California call it English 1 and English 2. To find out the course equivalence for 1B and 1C, you'd have to speak with an advisor both from your CC and university you desire to transfer if you need 1B and 1C but your CC in Southern California doesn't offer it. Sorry to bore you. If you wanted to transfer from a Canadian college to an American university, then you may end up -retaking LOTS of your courses since none of your classes may transfer. HOWEVER, if Canada offers an IB, International Baccalaureate diploma, your scores may grant you credit at some American universities and even community colleges.

Heavily serialized? Not even, there was a through plot with the dominion, but it was hardly a can't miss one episode or you'll be lost kind of show like Dexter or Breaking Bad. But you can easily watch that show without being intimidated by the fact that it's seven season long. And they took 10 episodes to warp things up because they did it right, but they are the ONLY ten episodes you "must" watch in order. All that said I agree DS9 is unquestionably the most human of the Trek shows, characters that are actual people and not superior acting do gooders. The relationships between people like O'Brien and Bashier, or Bashier and Garak, especially Odo and Quark are some of the best interpersonal interactions you will ever see in Trek. I could have done without them dropping a certain slur in Far Beyond the Stars, but given the time frame being depicted i see why the character said it, but hey Trek has never shied away from telling hard to hear tales about the human condition.

Every episode is episodic and you can watch them in any order. Skip the first season. Don't bother with the premiere episode. Just catch some of the good episodes like The Thaw or Dark Frontier or Bride of Chaotica or Someone to Watch Over Me *(featuring one of the sweetest moments ever in Star Trek) Personal taste may vary. The show had a lot of fun, goofy episodes. It was light. It was dark. It was even popular enough that the studio kept putting a lot of money into it.

Movie #7 is 'Star Trek Gnererations' which features both Kirk and Picard in another temporal (time) anomoly situation. How can that be when the original series movies and TNG take place 3/4 of a century apart? Whoopi Goldburg's Guinan has the anwere. It'a all Nicolas Meyer's fault (oh you'ld like me to connect the dots for you, lead you from A to B to C)...Meyer, who directed Star Trek's II & VI, in his earlier years wrote and directed 'Time After Time' in which H.G. Wells actually invents a time travel machine and pursues Jack the Ripper from Victorian London to present day (1979) San Fransisco. the Ripper is played by David Warner who is in Star Trek V and is Gul Madred in TNG's 'Chain of Command' and Wells is played by Malcom Macdowell who is Dr. Tolian Soran in 'Generations', the cross over film taking the audience from the TOS cast to the TNG cast. It is the first voyage of the Enterprise B...the last voyage of the Enterprise D...leading into the next film's ('First Contact') Enterprise E which is unquestionably the sexiest ship of all. Side note: film numbers are dropped from here on out and feature titles only. "Generations-First Contact-Insurrection-Nemesis' in that order. Then you'll like (at least some of ) 'Star Trek Picard' season 1 which begins first few episodes of him in this future time as it's now actually been 25 years since 'All Good Things' aired and he is, in fact, living at and operating his vinyards at Chateau Picard. Upcoming 2023's season 3 has got the fanbase really excited as it will feature the entire Next Generation cast.

You didn't see any episodes with Data's pet cat, Spot. Funny how in some he is a shirt haired cat, and others a long haired cat.

Not to mention he's usually called "he" or "him", but in one episode "he" has kittens. 🤔🤔🤔

I wouldn't get too excited about Star Trek 10 as being a grand finale. It was not planned as the end of the series, so it doesn't have that wrap-up bow you are hoping for.

It's great to see someone enjoying TNG, it really is a great show. I for one would like to see more Star Trek reactions. Even if you choose not to do anymore, I hope you continue to watch. The original, TNG, and Deep Space 9 are all really wonderful.

Star trek 7, aka Star Trek: Generations is sort of the passing of the torch movie. It's bigger budget than the TV episodes and has that movie quality/style and I've always liked the ideas in --in.-- it.

You need to watch S2 of Picard to see the REAL finale for Q. It's SOOO good. And he does appear both in episodes of DS9 and Voyager.

Yes please go back and watch more episodes after the movies, also watch deep space nine. It’s so underrated for Star Trek and often forgotten despite being an epic and thought out political thriller.

This is the gold standard for series finales. The only one that is better to me is the finale of DS9. But I don't begrudge anyone who holds this one higher.

I think it would be terrific. However, considering you're in college/university, you're looking at a year's worth of content. Maybe when it comes to summer vacation, you might consider one or two 12 hour marathon where you can kick out 1/2 a season in a day. That way you can finish a whole season in the summer, maybe 3 seasons. But even one 12- hour marathon might make you sleepy. As a second proposition, instead of covering every TNG episode, you could do an abridged version watching only 10 episodes from each season or even doing a super abridged version of 5 episodes from each season and then digging into Deep Space Nine or even trying a NON-TREK series like Babylon 5. However, if you do all episodes of TNG, your sub count may increase immensely because Star Trek is a big franchise and has thousands of fans. Did you know that there's even a Star Trek cruise which kind of is like a Star Trek convention but with cruise amenities like buffets, swimming pools, and even seeing exotic areas like the Caribbean. But the Star Trek cruises are expensive as going on the Disney Wish. But a Star Trek cruise is once a year and they don't always do it every year.

Thank you for watching one of my favorite TNG episodes. I enjoy TNG's "Generations" and "First Contact" movies, and watch each of them about once a year. I see Generations as more change-philosophical, and First Contact as more action. The TNG "Insurrection" would have been a great tv episodes, but most people want more action in big movies, to why I believe people don't like it as much. Insurrection is probably the most Gene Roddenberry type of movie since it deals with an ethical issue. Nemisis, it was ok, but the villain just did not do it for me. I wanted to see more Romulan society and I ended up getting a human-clone and the Remens, a sister planet in the Romulan solar system.

The cast does get together one last time in the upcoming third season of Star Trek: Picard. Q was central to this year's second series of Picard, no big spoilers but the trial finally ends. As far as the movies Generations was good, First Contact was comparable to The Undiscoverd Country as far as quality and action, Insurrection would have been a good hour long episode of the tv series but not a good movie and Nemesis was okay but the cast deserved a better sendoff.

Listen carefully to Q's diatribe about being guilty of being inferior. This is s very meta speech containing many of the criticisms the show faced versus TOS from some fans. Meanwhile, I think Q must have kicked the ball into the fairway for Picard... I mean, as good as his speech to the crew in the past may have been, his behavior was way too weird for people to go to their death like that. He's exhibiting signs of hallucinating for one thing and brazenly disobeying orders, among other things.

Yeah that's the thing, TNG wasn't what most people would think of as a series. It wasn't some seven year long interconnected story line. Which is funny considering what happens in this episode, but it's not like watching breaking bad or Dexter. This episode literally has no connection whatsoever with Generations or any of the TNG films. As we've been saying, there are aspects of the movie that are connected to certain episodes, like a piece of tech that Data has in his closet for example that will make no sense to you. But you should have an interesting view on Generations given that you haven't been watching the Show, or have any real experience with TOS beyond the movies.

It's just an exceptional show.... one of my top 10 TV series of all time. My test of great movies and television is something called the "eye test". TNG, Breaking Bad and multiple other television series have been off the air for several years now, and if I (or people in general) can look back and watch them years, or decades later and it still draws you in, then that is why those shows endure, and why it will attract people from any age. Glad you found this show. I hope you continue your Star Trek journey even after you watch the movies. It would be a disservice if you don't watch Voyager, DS9, Enterprise, and regardless of what people tell you.... Picard (it is only 3 seasons). Gene Roddenberry's vision is an ideal and a vision of what humanity could collectively be if we can ever "aspire". It is a transcendent story and vision and is relevant now more than it was when he first envisioned his concept and pitched "Wagon Train To The Stars" which is what his original title for Star Trek was. You can't go wrong with anything Star Trek. Good luck on your future journey.

How can someone that understands Gene's vision and idealism support a show like "Picard"? It is the exact antithesis to the utopia that Roddenberry wanted to put out there and completely undermines all that came before it. I will never understand.
