What i love about Santana is he doesn't just try to play a million notes a sec. He plays with feeling.

my favorite rock story: 1969. One sunday my friend and I decided to drive up to Berkeley for the free concert in Provo Park instead of the one in at Speedway Meadows in San Francisco. We didn't know who would be playing at either park but either was always free and good. We visited some university professor friends first and were introduced to Afghanistani hashish for the first time (that's another story) so when we finally got to the park, crawled out on the lawn and found a place to sit, we were in no shape to leave if the band was no good. We got concerned because usually everybody involved with the rock bands we liked were long-haired white guys, so when we saw many non-white people working the stage we thought maybe this wasn't going to be the music we had come to hear. There was a black guy in a funny hat warming up the bass; a guy with lounge-lizard hair got behind a big wrap-around Hammond organ; there were conga drums and a little kid climbed up and got behind the drum set and there was some scrawny Mexican guy with a guitar... Then a guy walked up to the microphone and said "Ladies and Gentlemen...let's hear it for a new band from the east side: "The Carlos Santana Blues Band!". They played their first album. They had recently been playing high schools and gymnasiums. It turns out that they had just recorded it and it was about to be released but at that point in time, still before Woodstock, we had never heard the music before. We spent the next hour with our jaws on the grass... When the album came out, that's when they became "Santana". I recommend "Incident at Neshabur".

I second the suggestion of "She's Not There" but also recommend, for maximum enjoyment, the first 3 tracks of the live Moonflower album, Dawn Go Within + Carnaval + Let The Children Play. Those 3 tracks will take you on a journey and leave you exhausted and needing a cigarette and a pause to reflect. Note, you don't want to listen to the 3 tracks as standalones but in a sequence, as the 3rd track hits so much harder precisely because the first two tracks made you ready and hungry for it.

If you want longer versions, check out some of the live versions of these songs. Black Magic Woman + Gypsy Queen live in Montreal, or Oye Como Va + Evil Ways. Amazing solos & transitions, so prepare to have your brains totally destroyed!

For Christmas of 1969 I received Abbey Road & my brother received the Santana album (black & white cover). We were both pre-teens. Loved them both. Both albums hold up so well. I got to see Santana many years later while ushering at the Warfield in San Francisco (sometime around 2000 + or - a year). Fantastic.

The group Santana is an American Latin rock band formed in 1966 by Mexican-American guitarist & songwriter Carlos Santana. They played at Woodstock in 1969. They have had a lot of great songs & instrumental rock tracks over the years such as "Jingo", "Evil Ways", "Black Magic Woman", "Samba Pa Ti", "Soul Sacrifice", "Oye Coma Va", "Everybody's Everything", "The Game Of Love", "Hope You're Feeling Better" etc. The song "Smooth" & "Maria Maria" were done later in 1999 & rejuvenated the career of Santana.

Carlos Santana didn't sing this song, the singer in this song is Gregg Rolie, he also sings another song by Santana called "Black Magic Woman", Carlos Santana is the lead guitarist and Gregg Rolie plays the keyboard. Gregg Rolie left Santana and joined a band called Journey which became quite successful. This was really cool, guys, thanks!

He's also backed by one the the best musicians there is. Santana as a group is nothing short of amazing. As a guitar player, I'm heavily influenced by Carlos. If you want to be blown away, listen to songs from the Welcome album like Flame Sky. Flame Sky will make you fall on your asses I guarantee you.

@@broaction5343 My bad, didn’t look close enuf. Absolutely luv ur vids btw. Thnx 4 all the work u do 2 entertain us …. I for one am truly grateful.. Have u looked into Sabaton’s “Christmas Truce” ?? Its a MUST see vid. CANNOT express that enuf. It’s about the Germans and Brits coming together 2 have a truce on Christmas Day during WW1. They played soccer (Germans 2 Brits 1 ) exchanged addresses, made new friends and overall just had a great day getting to know their enemies. Of course when they had 2 pick up their rifles again they cud NOT fire on their newly made friends so they purposely shot anywhere but AT them…. Due 2 this the “Powers that be” enforced new laws about a yr later (when things got REALLY ugly), stating that trying something like that again cud lead to treason and a bullet …. The cross is still standing to this day …. I am not sure when it was erected but it still stands. Another thing to note about this heavy metal band is that the props/war machines etc that they use are authentic to that era. In an interview they stated they’d even bought a tank (I think it was a tank) to make it more realistic and let’s not forget about the in-depth research that they do .,.. boggles the mind. Not sure how much you have listened to this band but I am quite certain that u 2 wud really appreciate their style of music. Their cover of “Bismarck” is crazy ass INSANE. Thnx again u 2. Keep on , keep on. Hugs 2 everyone
