@@Zarakikenpachi69420 The pope hadn't approved the blessing of gay marriage. Either read the document, or read from a nonbiased source what the document entails. Basically, blessings are allowed for anyone who proclaims their submission and compliance to freeing themselves of sin. People misdirect this reasoning to saying gay couples can be blessed, but in fact it's just saying something more like, gay couples can be blessed individually regardless of their sinful circumstance because it's always been a practice to bless people who are willing to take their journey out of sin. At least, that's the gist of it. If anything, it's a clarification on what has already been known about the various blessings offered and their nature. You need two hands to count the really good ones as well. Just doing your job as the pope is expected and therefore neutral really. So really he's just describing a bell curve distribution (something that has equal but lower good and bad but a large grouping of middling values) but pretending that good popes are literally anything better than the worst. Essentially grouping all the middling good and okish popes with all the distinctly good popes. So now we see a Black and White fallacy essentially. On top of all that because he pretended that a large proportion of the bell curve are all positive, he can then credit that large 'Good' proportion to christ which I just think is hilarious. You could literally use this argument on any line of world leaders from any system of power. Generally positive leaders amongst a few absolutely atrocious ones is not a Jesus specific phenomenon or something to be proud of.

When did Honorius, Alexander VI, or Benedict IX teach pernicious error in their papal magisterium? It is not a problem of bad popes, because these can exist. The problem is that there CANNOT exist "non-Catholic popes," just like there cannot be square circles. The formal principle that distinguishes Catholic epistemology is that, despite the personal faults of a pope, it is always safe to follow his ordinary teachings. He might commit sins against charity, but he will never commit sins against the faith in his magisterium, teaching something that endangers souls. Can that be said of Francis when he teaches that the death penalty is per se inadmissible, that adulterous couples living together is "what God himself might be asking" from them, and that calling Mary co-redemptrix is foolishness? Countless other examples could be provided. It is said about bad pope John XII: "Divine providence, watching over the Church, miraculously preserved the deposit of faith, of which this young voluptuary was the guardian. This Pope’s life was a monstrous scandal, but his bullarium is faultless. We cannot sufficiently admire this prodigy. There is not a heretic or a schismatic who has not endeavored to legitimate his own conduct dogmatically: Photius tried to justify his pride, Luther his sensual passions, Calvin his cold cruelty. Neither Sergius III nor John XII nor Benedict IX nor Alexander VI, supreme pontiffs, definers of the faith, certain of being heard and obeyed by the whole Church, uttered, from the height of their apostolic pulpit, a single word that could be an approval of their disorders." Excellent point! The common excuse of “well, sure he’s bad but we’ve had worse” is at best a cop-out and at worst a call for complacency in the face of probable heresy, blasphemy, and disloyalty. Even St. Peter, the Apostle and our first pope, was taken to task by St. Paul for his errors. And Francis, though our pope, is no St. Peter. Doesn’t the existence of “bad popes” suggest that whomever occupies the title of “pope” isn’t actually God’s chosen representative on earth? Don’t Catholics need to reconcile this issue? Either every pope is a legitimate representative of God, in which case, most Catholics don’t actually agree with what God wants in many cases. Or the pope isn’t actually God’s chosen representative. It really can’t be both, as far as I can see. How could one make any sense of this? Sometimes God chooses the right pope and sometimes he doesn’t? It seems more likely that God isn’t the one choosing who becomes the pope. But that leads into whether the Catholic Church actually has the moral authority it claims to have and truly speaks for God. No disrespect to our Catholic brothers and sisters but this seems like a huge problem to me. If all Catholics are commanded by God to respect, obey and believe in the supreme moral authority of the Catholic Church, I don’t really understand why so many Catholics feel free to classify good popes and bad popes. I think that not being able to square that circle is one of the many things that rightfully drives a lot of people away from Catholicism.

Well he just met with Whoopi Goldberg and she felt special as she discussed with the View. It was that she the INDIVIDUAL was special - her didn’t care about her five abortions and apparently was in agreement it’s good she had the choices then even to get divorced. It’s not like she said I feel spiritually hurt from my sins and ask for your forgiveness and prayers pope I am mortal and made mistakes that reflection and the shedding of that earlier egoic time has made me realize-I carry my cross and am honored to be in your presence wheee in this ancient holy place I can feel closest to God the father who gave his only son for my eternal life. Nah. Whoopi said hey there we’re equals and now you and those boring nuns (pope made a little joke about their displacement in this new modern world of man and all it’s great people-nothing special about the Catholics that was a bit “elitist” he seems to say! Let’s just all have a good time and play around. Worship the you in your flesh and the me in my flesh “together.” Traditions are a pain. Let’s be kind and happy right. And onto the View she goes to demean Catholics and Christians who take their faith seriously and follow the Bible seeking a narrow path towards enlightenment that she finds, well, “limited.” It’s so odd as none of those people have bothered her. But boy does their faith as obedience to something Hollywood can’t show her - to something not about man or man’s “politics” - boy does it almost summon her darkness. And off she goes to snuff it, lighten it up to remove the meaning (she tells us this when she casually says they agreed to get rid of the “Latin!” Who needs its sacred roots causing anyone peace. We can’t have that. Abortion, nothing special about the sanctity or protection of marriage or nuns or nuclear family. See!! Even he agrees! Sister Act Indeed. The woman who came in playing a Jew for sympathy and money demoralizing them (Old Testament a game). She rolls out (and she’s aging out as she farts on stage and laughs - demoralizes herself with this total lack of respect that comes from so much play in man’s world there’s no other mask but Queen of indifference and continued antics. But she’s going out biblically as well-used the Old Testament and it’s horrors as if it were her story, mocked the truly scared still rebuilding here in America and Israel. Now she’s in Italy with this worldly Disneyland kinda pope. Haha! Look world. He’s bs too. I danced on the New Testament. In the moments she commits such truly painful sins against her fellow humans she is the most lucid person on this stage of worldly woman isn’t she? I pray for her soul but fear it is too late. I pray for all of the women on that stage pushing a terrifying message of greed and war of “self love” over love your creator and act as he commanded (maybe they are and there’s is not mine) to your neighbor. Love your enemy and avoid gossip, slander and money hoarding. I see a stage a false idols so separate from gods creation of the divine mother. I see no joy expressed over or protection for children or this beautiful natural world and it’s food and farms as we see them destroyed for paper money. As we commodify and become same. As we leave babies a hellscape and take away their airways and voices and try desperately to hide the love and passion women and men everywhere assigned to the value of human life as undoubtedly valuable. The ability to worship something higher than this place, to love OUR HEAVENLY FATHER over a king or a few dozen of them that let us share their stuff. This meant goodwill and basic love for one and other that built a peaceful place for awhile. The Judaea Christian values in the west, faith of Christian’s Jews Catholics Muslims - they almost existed in recognition of one and others right to worship and enjoy this beautiful world more together because of the RESPECT for the differences and similarities as beautiful. As a celebration not a blasphemous blending of all it you’re excluding some man who wants you not to help the needy. Who wants to hoard with kings. Whoopi made me shaky. But she is flesh as is this pope. And into material clones or AI “science” eternity they stumble. This is all told and all known to us. It is just a spectacle to see.

First off they claim they are God's gateway and if you don't acknowledge the church despite acknowledging Christ in your heart you will burn in hell without communion and confessions. Secondly they lived extravagantly more so than kings! Kings could lose their lands and wealth and they'd come and go in Europe for 1300 years. Good luck being a king who is not recognized or annointed by a Bishop. The church owned lands outright and levied taxes and took tithes from lords and kings and good luck on military campaigns harming a man of the cloth or raiding church lands. The church had so much power politically and economically and their members living these extravagant lives was everything that Jesus was against.

Wow, I'm surprised by the comments; regarding the topic, Christ already said that whoever has never sinned should throw the first stone, how easily we judge without looking at our own sins. Popes may be better or worse, but we are not judges. On the other hand, stop comparing the church with a democratic system, where you vote for the president, it doesn't work like that. If you see someone doing something wrong, you pray for them and perhaps offer fraternal correction, but without condemning, as it is not a Christian attitude. Where have we left loving our enemies? I’m sure plenty others will comment on the theological issues with this, so I will stick with statistical problem. While its accurate to say that only a few popes have been terrible to the level of Alexander VI, its not accurate to say that the rest have been above average. This doesn’t account for popes who weren’t lunatics but also weren’t virtuous, and it doesn’t account for popes who were just meh or average or just ok. It would be more accurate to say that popes are like any other elected office, its 50/50 and heavily dependent on political events of the time periods.

The issue being papa infallibility. But then you just excuse it by saying the times popes teach something wrong, they weren't using their infalability. That excuse might have potential to hold water if you could give a criteria by which to determine when a pope is undeniably speaking infalably. But the only criteria given is that he needs to be teaching "at the fullness of his office that he inherited from peter" Which that in itself has no criteria by which we can determine of a pope is, or isn't teaching in that state, And also that the pope has to be teaching on faith and morals for infallibility to be engaged. Well the thing is everything being contested by protestants, or others about when popes say, or teach something wrong are always about faith. And morals. Nobody cares about what sports teams he likes, or what he says the best type of food is. Everything being contented against when popes teach, or speak in error is in regards to faith, and morality. So we need the criteria by which we can know whether, or not he is speaking "at the fullness of his office" And if there isn't a definite criteria for it, then it is literally an infalsifiable assertion. Nobody can verify if the pope is speaking infalibly or not because it can just be whenever the church does, or does not want him to be based on what they need at any given moment.
