Feel like nobody did a video on this properly yet, but can you do a video on what getting a type rating is like? What you studied, your routine, fun stories from there, crazy simulator situations you're put into and how you solved them, etc. That would be great to listen to.

I’m kind of in that position, Garrett, and you were one of the people that inspired me to go back to Flying after 13 years of Atc. I live in Miami with my family and would love to be at AA, but my only way to make the initial step was to do Envoy for the Miami bass, and for the captain pay at 750 hours. But now I’m kind of in that boat where they say it’s really tough to get hired off the street if you’re at a wholly owned. And I get really frustrated when people tell me to go to Spirit for six months and then go to AA. If I went through all that stress of getting through training at Spirit/ Jetblue, I don’t see myself making another jump.

I'd love to get info on the difference between the life of a reserve vs a lineholder pilot. I've been going through a divorce for the last two years and it's going to basically erase the last 20 years of my life's progress. Really looking forward to finalizing this mess so I can move out of my dangerous, high intensity, high environmental exposure job into a job as an airline pilot. Thank you for the info and keep up the good work. 👍

Totally tangent to the point of the video, but strictly speaking "regional" is an outdated term from the days of government granted monopolies(1930s through 1970s), it was a specific thing in the context of the Civil Aeronautics Board allotting routes. Today regional is more of a vague description of scheduled airlines that mostly fly aircraft in the 20 to 80 seats size range. (and most of them happen to contract with "majors" for various business reasons but that is not required.)

Thanks for all the info! I'm trying to decide where to go after flight school, and I'm considering SkyWest for a number of reasons. But I'm also thinking of going to one of the low cost airlines so that I can start off on a 737 right out of the gate, and then after upgrading and working as a captain for them for a couple years, transitioning to a legacy carrier as a direct entry captain. Does this sound like a reasonable plan, or are there some red flags I should be aware of?

Thanks for your videos. Is 40 too late to get into flying? Got my PPL back in 2014 and plan to make a switch from IT to airline pilot. What is the usual time-line or years when a FO at Regional will start seeing 6 figure salaries? Just debating about the pay-cut I will have to take when I make this switch. From what I have seen - $90/hr for a Regional FO appears to be the starting salary (75 hr block time comes to 81k pre-tax) Also when you start as a regional FO, are we guaranteed the hours to fly or are we a reserve pilot?
