Natick Industries, the company in charge of developing US MREs, actually has a program where people can help. It's a month long program and you get paid to eat MREs(no MCWs, TOTMs, etc.). I know it was an honest mistake on her part but for those strictly civilian viewers, MREs DO NOT come packaged in retort pouches. The components do. European rations tend to use commercial components a lot more often than US and UK rations, though UK rations will include them also. I've always been disappointed that US rations have not included more drink mixes, especially considering the fact that in some theaters of Operation, you're REQUIRED to drink up to 8 liters of water a day. Drinking plain water gets to be a chore.
@TheLazyFinn

@@kevinmoore2929 As a conscript almost all of the "MREs" I had (in Finland) were civilian stuff made for campers, keep it simple stupid I guess? During my retraining I actually got something that probably is a military MRE, so the more hardcore guys like recon units probably get the real deal more

No, she makes money making these videos, but, they don’t necessarily make her rich! That’s something people assume and, they assume companies pay them, nope, not unless if that company sponsors them and, that again doesn’t necessarily means she’ll make ton from that company! There are a lot of variables, which is based on subs, viewers, popularity and, then, there’s the commercials and people going to them sites! Don’t base something on something you think you know unless you know all the variables! And, I don’t watch KZitem based on a baseless comment like yours!

When I was in my mid-teens, my dad used to take me hunting at Fort Benning in Georgia. The fort would open up the areas where they held their war games to veterans for hunting when the war games weren't going on. Naturally, the soldiers would eat MREs during these maneuvers. During our hunting trips, we'd often find the stuff they'd leave behind, so I got to sample those MREs. I thought they tasted pretty good. Later, as an adult, I bought some for myself. I still enjoyed them.

I did my first hitch (US Airforce) in 1976-1980, my second hitch (US Navy) in 1980-1986, had the old C-rats a few times. Didn't get to try MREs until later in the 1990s as a civilian. I occasionally used them on motorcycle roadtrips and camping trips. I carried GI Surplus canteens, cups and stove in pouches on my bike. Worked very well. 😊

I was in the U.S. Army from 1998-2006 and had plenty of MREs during that time. Other than a few really nasty ones, I didn't find them to be that bad. Back then if you got the vegetarian MREs, you had all the awesome candy and the snacks on the side were the best. I mean when you're in the field and hungry, you're not all that picky.

It is the limited quantity symbol for hazardous goods but its not related to a drop test. It's because with certain MREs they have little envelopes you put in their packets and when you fill it with water it causes a chemical reaction which heats the water so you can boil your food packs. That chemical reaction is what deems the product hazardous for transportation but since the amount of the chemical present in the box being shipped is negligible in terms of how dangerous it it is to be flown on a plane, it's considered "limited quantity" and therefore can bypass a lot of the annoying restrictions to ship it with carriers, like UPS, FEDEX, ETC. Shipping things like laptops and cell phones, which use lithium ion batteries and are class 9 hazardous materials, can also bypass restrictions if the "quantity" is limited.

Wouldn't recommend heating the tins closed. Could be a little dangerous to open once hot and under pressure. Back in the 90's with what are described as 'cold war' rations, in tins, we always cracked them open and sat them in a 'bain marie', i.e. a water bath.

I can't get over the amount of meat, especially in that first one! I wish i could afford some of these as my power is off. My heat sucks so even with my power on, i have to buy kerosene throughout the cold season and i can't afford both. I can only eat soups i can set on my kerosene heater so these (with the bonus of the heaters) would be a step up foodwise! My husband passed away & I've really been struggling so I'm hoping that when summer comes i can get back on my feet and get my power & water back on. I don't have any family so I'm on my own as far as getting any help.
