The term bioplastic is made up of the prefix “bio” and the term “plastic”. “Plastic” refers to a thermoformable material that can be melted, becomes malleable and can be transformed into film and items of various shapes. The term “bio” refers to life, and can indicate two things: the plastic’s origin from biological or natural raw materials, such as starch, cellulose, etc., or biodegradation, i.e. natural degradation due to microorganisms.
