I spent three weeks in Ardnamurchan on an archaeological excavation last year, travelled around the peninsula and went to Tobermory/Ledaig a couple of times as well. It was an absolute pleasure spending time with the approximately 100 people on the peninsula, sharing their environment with them and getting a taste of their way of life in such a magical place. The main thing that sticks with me still is how much the environment plays into the flavour of the whisky, far more than any other distillery I’ve been to. I don’t know where they source their peat or where their dunnage is, but I’ve never been able to so directly smell a place from their whisky. The geology, the soil and peat, the sea and spray, the brine soaked driftwood campfire we had each night. I won’t soon forget the kindness of the people there and in Tobermory too. They’ll let you try anything, and their transparency about their bottlings and how they blend each batch is incredible. The integrity and genuine nature of the people there is incredible and I hope to see them again soon.

Early on (I think it was maybe the first Ardnamurchan available in the US), they had an American-Exclusive version of the AD which was one of my all-time most favorite whiskies ever, right up there with a great batch of Springbank 15. Been a big fan ever since.

I love Ardnamurchan! They are super transparent too with their QR code on the back. It tells you all the barrels, dates, times, when things were distilled and by whom. It's magnificent!!

I've loved all the Ardnamurchan I have tried. Amazing stuff from a newer distillery for sure. Hope more releases make it to the US.

I can't tell you how much fun it was to watch and learn from this episode. Top reason is I recognized the bottle bring sampled today, researched this morning and found a pic I took of this bottle shape with an additional label on board the Uncruise Wilderness Legacy on a cruise 2 years ago next week. I took a down day to enjoy the level COVID that the cruise was sharing and sipped that Scotch that surprised me. Very easy to drink slow and neat over several hours while sitting on the top deck of the Wilderness Legacy as we slowly turned in a bay on one of the ABC Islands

The compass box stuff still tastes as good as any price comparable single malt just outstanding!! Reading the single malts that go into it is always great entertainment over a dram too 😊

I've got a Virginia Distilling Co. blend of ASM and "Scottish malt" (I guess they can't call it Scotch because not bottled in Scotland.) It's really good.

I really appreciate how you look to define things in the whiskey industry so clearly. Keep it coming. Question for you, Daniel, or anyone in the group who wants to comment: Do you think blending is a different skill in the whiskey industry to distilling or single barrel picking?

I love everything about this. Especially when blending can create something more than the sum of its parts. Thank you for another great conversation! 😄

Under your definition is Keeper's Heart a "blending house?" They combine Irish pot still whiskey and American rye. I assuming they source the Irish and make the rye but I'm not sure. Fantastic combo though. I really wish more people would try blending traditional American whiskeys (Bourbon, Rye or malt) with Scotch and Irish whiskeys. American malt whiskey tends to have its own character (like Blue peek) separate from Scotch or Irish malts and I would love to see what blenders in the US could do with some classic Scotch or Irish sourced spirit. Make it happen for the community whiskey influencer.

Hey i had a random question that i cant seem to find an answer to online. I found a bottle of gibsons finest sterling edition from 2014 i believe but cant find any info online / the bottle is completely different now. The pricetag says 1300$ ( doubtful my grandpa was a cheap lovely soul) lol. I just wanted to know anything at all about it i love whisky but want to keep it sealed still as a keepsake if its worth something. Thanks :) also found a bottle of chivas 12 in the box likely from around 2014 aswell. Might crack that one to have one last drink in remeberance.

Fusion sounds awesome. 🤘 A little tip for pronouncing Brisbane... Pretend that you just came from the dentist and you have a numb mouth. Then you mumble out Brizzbn. 🤣😂🤣
