What are modes for?
Complete harmony course on this link (only in French): jazzcomposer-f...
You often ask me questions about fashions, and the subject being quite complex, I don't always have the ability to formulate things very clearly...
To help me answer your questions, I turned to a colleague who also works on the internet: Louis Alléaume, a multi-instrumentalist who also studied at CMDL (Didier Lockwood's school).
He found a very clear way to explain complex things in harmony.
On this new video, he answers my first question: “What are modes for in jazz?”
I must say that his answers also helped me put things back in place in my head... A little revision is always good!
To go further, Louis has also created a complete harmony course! I highly recommend it: Louis manages to simplify what can sometimes seem very confusing...
Here is the link to his course:

As you know, I myself focused on the transmission of jazz violin. Even if my knowledge of jazz harmony is enough for me to improvise, I did not have the time to invest more time in teaching theory. Louis, for his part, has been doing this research and teaching work for years, and we really feel his passion for jazz harmony which he transmits wonderfully, as you will see in the video.
I hope his work will help you see things more clearly... Just like me!
