The Second Smallest Parrot, The #Parrotlet
All That Has A Hookbeak Bites!
Yes, this little parrot is the second smallest in the psittacine family, but it doesn't keep them from using that hookbill!
Parrotlets, who are only a couple inches and approximately 30 grams, seem to go through a 'teenage' rebellion phase in which they like to bite! This starts around 2 to 3 months of age and lasts for several months. Then by the time they have matured and have calmed down, around 8 months, they seem to relax and be more easy-going.
One of my favorite things about these little guys is that, even though they are small, they recognize me. The babies I've raised like to fly to my shoulder or head and say hello. They like to just hang out and get treats too. Their pastel colors delight me, their pear-shaped bodies make me chuckle and their happiness makes me smile. Love them!
They are active parrots, so I like giving them more than enough space. As a matter of fact, when they fly, they can hover in a spot, like a hummingbird! I guess that makes sense, given the fact that they are similar in size.
