What are Solo RPGs? Janet sat down with game designer Anna Blackwell (Apothecaria, Delve, For Small Creatures Such as We) to talk about these fun, emotional, creatively-inspiring games.
A solo RPG is ... well, a roleplaying game you play on your own. You act as GM, Player and Writer, and document your adventure in a journal, map or other artifact. Some include dice, cards, or even Jenga towers to introduce the element of chance and increase narrative tension.
Why play solo RPGs?
To fill in the gaps when you can't work out scheduling with your group
To explore complex or sensitive ideas and topics privately
To play a travel-friendly game when you're on the road
To enjoy yourself without pressure if you're a "forever GM"
