@@hdcreyes they aren't teaching you to have brown skin, it's more of a critique on how the media continuously perpetuates the image of pale skin as the standard of beauty. Obviously, if you want to stay the pale or tan, that's up to you. But truth of the matter is, these commercials and abundance of whitening and bleaching products is harmful and causes insecurities, bullying, and self esteem issues.

@@erikabautista7072 Let me reiterate that if a certain ad doesn't speak to you then you can simply ignore it. As a consumer, each one of us has the power to support the brands/products that we believe in or that work for us. We create the demand and companies will have no choice but to put out products that will be profitable for them. This video was shaming the Pinoys who want to lighten their skin. Respect means you should not force your opinions/beliefs on others. I can be a proud Pinay with my naturally fair skin. People can be proud Pinoy with their gluta skin. Being a proud Filipino is not limited to your skin tone. They should not project their insecurities about their skin tone to others. Instead, they should educate and preach about welcoming everyone regardless of skin or race or whatever. They should be promoting love, peace and respect. Ang dami kasi na kung anu-ano pa ang pinaglalaban. The discussion should not be about the color of the skin. Beauty and confidence starts from the inside. It is not dependent on ads you see on billboards and TV nor from other people.

okay here’s my take: the whitewashing industry IS toxic. unlike the west wanting to tan, i feel as though asia puts more pressure in needing to look a certain way. promoting and advertising light skin to an audience with a majority of tan skin is harmful, especially to the youth. we shouldn’t be okay-ing this. let’s be real, being light is a privilege. it’s no longer just a preference, but a mindset we should go against.

It's crazy because I've always been teased and made fun of for being too pale. Being told I look sick or like I'm dying. Having people tell me I'd look better if I got a tan, asking why I dont use tanning beds or tanning lotion. I've been told guys would find me more attractive if I tanned. When I went through an eating disorder I was also told I wouldn't look as big if I tanned. It's not in the same playing field as whitewashing but there is a pressure here in the west to be tan more than some think. It all needs to be addressed, there's shouldn't be pressure to change your body.

A short message: We should all be proud of what we are. We should embrace it. We should never make fun of our own ancestors and the tribal communities because that's where we came from. Why do people need to be white just to be called *"BEAUTIFUL"* ? Filipinos are racist of their own kind but appreciate others, i think we should give some respect and love to our selves first. Filipinos think they need to be white because they want people to notice their skin and their delusions of *"any outfits suits you if you're white"* . And also, please stop bullying white filipinos calling them *"You are just beautiful because you're white"* or *"You're not smart, you're just white"* . Just because they are white doesn't mean they are what you expected, also applies with every skin color. Brown/black filipinos are discrimintating themselves without realizing it. They think, the whites degrade them and have more privilege. And there goes bullying white people, making fun of them, speaks of stereotypes, and also downgrading them too, due to the brown skinned filipinos defense mechanism to reverse the situation (the situation wherein brown/black ppl envied white and then bullies them so that the whites would also feel envy and uncomfortable of their own skin). Stop these kind of bullying, stereotypes and colorism guys. We should respect every color guys, whether *BLACK, BROWN, YELLOW OR WHITE* . Let us love ourselves and not let anybody tell what we should be look like just for others to like us. One way to look beautiful is to be confident. You can slay ur outift, your persona if you are just being youself and confident. We have flaws guys, dont forget that. Embrace it, no one is perfect. Changing yourself in a bad way is never gonna make things better. Change your self for the better, for others and for yourself. And also, we should not be manipulated by these advertisements only promoting only white skin. It's okay to use those products but don't let yourself be fed up by these propaganda and manipulate u for ur whole life thinking white is better which is very sad and heart breaking. Remember, *BLACKS DON'T CRACK* for morenos morenas . God bless have a good day ❤❤

It has to do with colonization. Eurocentric and asian beauty standards. We're such a melting pot of ethinicities but only a certain demographic is revered and celebrated by the media whereas it should be diverse. We're getting there though. The shackles of colonial mentality is getting looser and looser and we're evolving as a society. Before, we had to assimilate to be accepted (Dona Victorina in Rizal's Noli) but we don't have to anymore. It's up to us, the next generation of parents to instill in our children that everyone can be beautiful regardless of race and color.

I think it’s the culture way back colonization. People with fair skin are often depicted as someone in higher social status because they don’t have to work in the fields. It's colonial mentality pag Causcasian tingin ng pinoy super ganda na or gwapo but back on their country they look average tapos pag may pinoy na naka jowa ng causcasian sasabihin na agad siya ng jackpot, the thing is we are always proud of our race yet we always downgrade ourselves without even realizing it katulad nalang ng sinabi ko na "ay nakaasawa ng puti ang swerte naman" foreigner or pinay you're always lucky that you found a girl wag mong ibase ang kaswertehan sa race or nationality no race is better than the other

In my experience, it's better to know what you have than what you want to have. No one is meant to be a copy of another. Just like cutting gems, you gotta know the gem's structure or else it won't shine. Society has always been biased, since it is in our nature to favor something seen collectively as good than something seen as bad. We are social creatures, and will therefore seek to be "one of the people". Nothing stays the same though. Earth's climate have always been changing, and so has society.

Heres what I have to say: Do what you want. Love yourself, love others. Your color does not defy you their words do not defy you your personality however is a whole other thing. Body Positive and loving yourself also means Caring about yourself enough to take your health into a consideration. Yun lang mga bes I mean I could be wrong 14 lang ako pero okay na yun basta sakin sundin mo yung ikakasaya at ikakabuti mo go lang ng go pero pag nakakasakit ka na ng iba kelangan mo na mag stop.

My biggest insecurity was my dark circles. T'was very visible, people tend to ask me if I haven't had enough sleep, would constatly tell me I looked so stress/ or i looked like a zombie. Often times people would say "you're pretty but you have dark under eyes." I could still remember someone told me I looked like I hit some drugs but I look pretty. It gets me a lot one time I really had bad anxiety because of it. They obviously didn't know dark circles can be obtained through genetics.

Salamat.

When I was in 10th grade our teacher/marching band trainor, insulted and removed me from being a majorette of the band, 'cos I gained weight and my skin got darker. Back then I feel really hurt and locked myself on the school toilet and cried for about 2 and a half hours. My self-esteem went very low to the point, I hated to see my reflection in any kind of mirror. And I never attended any parties and school events like prom, and graduation ball anymore. Because I feared that someone might insult and judge me again. And that's a really unforgettable and very bad experience I had in my high school years.
