As a boater in Maine, my autopilot holds a course through heavy fog without overcorrecting course which I do. For fishermen, a fish on while trolling is much easier to land with ap. A really worthwhile investment imo.

So true!!! In the fog, holding a course without instrumentation is so hard. An autopilot is meant to hold a course, and so useful in fog. Thanks for sharing.

Jeff/PYS -- FYI -- Sound level on this video MUCH higher than your previous vids. That's a good thing.

Thanks Doug, we've recently upgraded our equipment and we're happy with the results. Thanks for the feedback and for watching!

That was great Jeff. I just went thru a bit of a scary situation by myself that would have been much safer if I had had an autopilot. Am actively looking for a new boat and it will have autopilot for sure. Thanks!

Not yet a boater, but curious - are there any considerations on these systems for avoiding collisions? Will these systems interface with a radar, for example, to avoid collisions with a dinghy, a bouy, etc?

Modern radars are more likely to pickup paddle boaters, dinghy's, and definitely buoys (because they are made of metal).

Great stuff as always Jeff. The heading sensor at the core of the system is the key for us with the 3D bathy “painting” at slow speeds. Not necessarily autopilot benefit, but thought it should be mentioned.

Good question, to my knowledge marine autopilot only hold a steady course and do not route around vessels.

Hello from Thunder Bay, I have a question/idea to help make my boat more idiot proof: She is a '87 Carver 28/27. (I'm sure you've seen a million of them lol) My 12v system has 2 banks, with a 1+2 combiner switch. 1is my starting battery, 2 is my deep cycle. Could I use a solenoid switch, controlled by the ignition switch to bypass the combiner switch for the starting battery? Then when I cruise, I can set my switch to just house battery, and forget about it until I get home. So I don't have to remember to switch batteries every time I start and stop..

Yep, that would work. Here is a common remote battery switch we use: www.bluesea.com/products/7701/ML_Solenoid_-_12V_DC

Would you get one even for a 27foot motorboat?

Some do, like boaters that go on long trips, or boaters that fish, also boaters that have limited crew and want the safety of another "set of hands" on the helm.
