Humates are the worlds oldest form of compost and are rich in carbon, humic and fulvic acids. They facilitate the increase in plant uptake for iron, zinc, copper and manganese whilst, promoting root growth through deeper soil depths, increasing nutrient capture capacity, sugar content and yields.
Humates also promote root growth through deeper soil depths, increasing nutrient capture capacity and increasing activity of microorganisms therefore, improving the health of soils and making more nutrients available to plants.
They are a transporter and source of key minerals such as, nitrogen, phosphorus, and sulphur for plants and microorganisms and serve as an adsorption and retention complex for inorganic plant nutrients making key minerals more readily available to plant roots. In addition, they improve soil structure, aeration and water holding capacity.
The environmental benefits include: reducing leaching of nitrogen compounds and increased soil retention of CO2, improved effectiveness and lower fertiliser requirements, reducing fertiliser costs for farmers and growers, increase water holding capacity.
Facts:
The higher the humus levels in soil, the less the need for chemical intervention.
Humus is the primary vehicle for mineral storage and delivery in the soil, greatly improving the nutritional value of food.
1% increase in organic matter (humus) means soil can hold an additional 170,000 litres of water per hectar.
