My 18-year-old son, a heavy smoker, had a psychotic break and jumped from the top of a parking structure. He survived, but sustained a brain injury. I found the connection of weed to psychosis in young people when I was trying to help my son recover. It's TRUE! But almost no one wants to hear it. Most don't even want someone to talk about it. Thank you.🙏🏽

I use medical cannabis. As a kid, a lot of friends were daily smokers. I dated someone who was absolutely having trouble with life because they were habitual and young. I was a very infrequent participant because it did cause me some anxiety and I would not ever use it if I had homework. As an adult, and learning how it actually works in the brain, I can use it daily or intermittently without issue. It took almost 10 years to try this form of therapy for my anxiety. I was over 27 and it was a very different experience. Also in micodosed amounts I found better relief.

I’ve stopped several times but I always come back to it. I have severe anxiety , depression, etc. it helps me sleep. Lately it just seems I’m doing out of habit tho rather than enjoyment. I’d like to stop completely one day but I don’t think today is the day. Any advice?

@@rae7739 Find things that can be habitual that are healthy for you. Like growing a garden or crafting of some sort, maybe art in some form. Something you can do that will release dopamine. I love animals. I have rats and a dog on top of having children. I spend my time now taking care of their enrichment needs and the time flies by so fast I don't even want to smoke anymore. I quit cigarettes 2 years ago and weed helped me and I quit weed almost 2 months ago and I'm doing great. I feel better and my emotions are balancing out and I feel my focus adjusting as well. Overall I feel much better. If you want to quit, you've got this!❤🎉

Dr Christian Bogner explains the brain in a way the makes this make sense. It's the excess adrenaline not being degraded because of the brain swelling that deactivates Vit C B's (esp Niacin) and zinc that would typically help to process the excess adrenaline. Which eventually stimulates DMT in the brain.

It is a good question. I didn't smoke it at a young age but I was around smokers of it a LOT so I wonder about the second hands. I think nest bet is using it at an older age in non smoke forms like brownies. I am not against legalizing it, or people using it but I dk of I would ever use it anyway...maybe. I also wish people who DO use it eoukd be honest about the reality of if they are having negative effects or not on their health and the effects the secondhand smoke may have on others

@@ff-zo2nk I don't think I have seen like a lot of people getting/staying poor specifically due to that, but I am sure that just like gambling, or sugar, or buying too many clothes, etc. it could make a dent in finances enough to cause difficult situations/habits to get out of.

Excellent summary of the reality of cannabis use. It seems to be true that most people are not going to be negatively affected by occasional recreational use after the age of 25 ish. But the statistics aren't in. So we are rolling the dice without knowing the odds.

Good grief! I remember back when I was going to school, they had smoking courts for the smoking students. I didn’t know it at the time, but that smell that didn’t smell like my parents’ ciggies was the Lettie’s of which she speaks. People walked around like zombies back then. I have to wonder how they’re doing today.

But if someone started smoking at, say, 14 years old and becomes a heavy smoker, but quits at like, 25, can the brain heal til their brain development is that of their peers? Or will they forever be that much farther behind?

I'm never giving up weed. I went from being consistently high when I'm awake to smoking one to four times a day. The attitude of "I HAVE to quit," made things way the fuck worse. The paradox is when I really want something, to quit or to smoke, that's what's causing the issues for me.

If you wanna be careful about it, you could read a little info from medical sources, and also I encourage you to ask yourself the usual questions about addiction : when is the first time you smoke in a day ? (The sooner the lesser good) Did it ever happen that someone who really loves you and care for you said that they were concerned about your using ? Did you feel like their concern was somehow valid, or did you ever think yourself that your using had a bad influence on your life, your productivity, what you would like to be and do ? I'm no scientist and in no way a specialist on the effects of substances on a young brain, but as a young adult those can be the first steps to come out of denial if your using is detrimental to you.

@@RachelDaSilvato my understanding, we still do not have the research to confirm that THC affects long-term memory. It is assumed, and supported by some studies, but it is a schedule 1 drug (not for long, thanks Biden), so it has not been studied very well in the US. We can absolutely say that it affects short-term memory. The objective best thing you could do is stop right now. Unless you are using marijuana to treat a (preferably diagnosed) specific condition (insomnia, eating disorder, PTSD, chronic pain) you are harming your lungs, brain, and potentially other aspects of your life for little benefit. Realistically, most people do not stop “cold turkey”. I am not a doctor, but what I’d recommend is pushing the time you smoke back further and further into the day, hopefully to a point where you are only smoking after dark. (depending on your schedule. If you work night shift, PLEASE do not wait until it’s dark to smoke!) In my personal experience, once you realize how much you get done when you don’t smoke, and how fulfilling it is to get things done, you won’t even want to smoke until night. It becomes a reward, not a crutch.
