Wow, was that a good presentation! I have taken several classes on oils, greases, and tribology in general which covered these topics. But yours was an excellent quick refresher with good graphics to illustrate your points. I just found your site and have subscribed. Thank you! Brian in California

Good Sir - I am enthusiastic about LE, from all channels, incl yours :) Yes, I have gleaned, ZDDP [Who hasn't :) ] - Ca & Mg Det & Disp, Silicon anti-foam, Moly fric mod... etc. Please do another show, with more detail? Like - What additives do what? Who does what - & to whom? :) Seems good ol' ZDDP (or ZDP?) - Dual functions as Oxi-inhib? What is the additive that helps Seal Pliability? - As different, to Seal Sweller? Is it still Poly-Ol-Ester? Just in smaller dose? What about Boron? What does that do? Anti-fric? Or disp?

Good day Sir. It is my first time to come across your channel. I found it educational and straight to the point. I work at a lubricant company as sales and marketing and as a training development here in the Philippines. I hope that I can use your videos for training purposes. By the way, can I share and post this in my facebook page? Will definitely post your channel and link for credit. Thanks in advance.

Hi George! Absolutely you can share it. If you're in training development, could you please email me at lubrication.explained@gmail.com. I would like to get your opinion on a few things.

Hi Joe, would you elucidate if those aftermarket ZDDP, like Plus and Maxx are of the same quality than for example original in a qt. Oil Container that came of Lubrizol, Afton, Infineon add packages, or are they secondary and more volatile with lesser quality?
@LubricationExplained

So in a lot of cases I believe it may even be exactly the same additives. The risk with aftermarket additives is knowing what treat rate is appropriate. For example, say you have an oil that is half way through its life and you are looking to top up with an aftermarket additive. How much more ZDDP can the oil take before it's super-saturated? If you reach the saturation point, ZDDP will just fall out of solution and contribute to sludge and deposits.

General Comment It was a surprise to me that motor oil manufacturers get additives from the cosmetic industry. I first heard of this in F1, the Red Bull team. The team uses Mobil motor oil and Mobil created a new oil with an additive found in the cosmetic industry that apparently had not been used before. I thought it might be untrue so I wrote a synthetic oil producer, and they confirmed this to be true. Mobil will not say what the additive is since it created more horse power at high temperature for Red Bull Honda. I found this to be very interesting and, I’m not sure if it speaks well of the oil industry or poorly of the cosmetic industry.

Yeah! Lubricants are really just a combination of organic and inorganic chemistry, so theoretically additives from any of the chemicals industries could have some efficacy. I actually know Tomasz who heads up the motorsport program at Mobil and was interviewed for all those articles - he's (in my opinion) got just about the coolest job in the world.

I know that naphtenic base oil is used In cosmetics (baby oil clean skin). They could be adding it as it evaporates at high temperature and may go to induction by pcv increasing top ring lubrication and also hc power.

Hi, will you add about friction modifier additive in details, and some examples of organic friction modifier that use in engine oil when molybdenum is not present. Thank you

Great suggestion! There's so many topics to cover, but yes, would love to get to Moly and friction modifiers at some point. We did cover some friction modifiers in a little detail here: kzitem.info/news/bejne/2X16sJ2jo4tzeaw

What would Copper Sulfate be useful for in an engine oil? I notice Engine Restore which has good reviews is a blue powder that looks like blue stone in a base oil.
