Another great video Eddie, you're getting good at this! Seriously though, I'm also super excited to see how it looks in a few years. Its great to see this been redeveloped. I can remember getting off the Bus there (no metros them days) and making your way through the streets to St James. I did some chef training in the old fire station that was a experience and a half. Then, opposite the police station who can remember the shop where you exchange your coupons from ciggie packets (Ke4nsitas, if I remember correctly) and green shields stamps. There was also a wall as you head down to the bridge which was called the FLICKR wall, where members of FLICKR wrote messages and down photos to place on FLICKR.

Wow Eddie,....this is a fabulous view into the future,...thank you. Just for a wee bit of ecological balance, these developments come with a consequence, which is the continued migration into cities at the cost of the countryside. Investment in those places where our nourishment comes from is diminishing at a devastating rate. Food is already depleted of the nutrition we once had in part due to the lack of people to maintain the land. So,.....I luv the video, but there is a much deeper issue behind the development of city ecology at the expense of rural ecology. What I would love to see is investment in rural areas like Amble for example, and other rural towns/villages, encouraging people to populate our magnificent Northumbrian countryside. PennyXxx

It's going to be so exciting but for me I think they should've done things differently, I would love to have seen that area of Newcastle become similar to Spinningfields in Manchester with open grass spaces, outdoor dining tables and maybe a few residential towers. It's a real shame the whole of Pilgrim Street can't be demolished and built up again like other cities are doing. Then we could have say our own BoxPark like London. Also not sure if they are or not, but I think it's crazy to not build say a 2-3 story car park underneath the HMRC site, traffic is going to be crazy.
@TynesideLife
Жыл бұрын
The area being developed in Newcastle will look similar to the Spinningfield development in Manchester. This too has public realms amongst modern buildings. I went there a few weeks ago. They’re building in newcastle a 150 space car park with the idea of investing heavily in public transport infrastructure, rather than having more vehicles in the city centre. All towns and cities are moving away from this idea.

@@firestarter1888 from the article it raises eyebrows but there’s nothing illegal about it but if the HMRC infrastructure is costing less through tax cuts then it benefits us anyway

I wonder what Newcastlers think of these developments? Do they want there city as a tourist destination or as a working city? I’m not from the UK feel free to enlighten me.

Different people will have different views but mainly, people see tourism as a massive source of revenue for the local economy since the death of industry on the Tyne. Work evolves and Newcastle is no different but in my opinion, the evolution of the city is making it even more special 👍🏻

One obvious question: is the new office building speculative?

I don’t understand your question?

@@TynesideLife When offices get built they are either for a client so that occupancy is guaranteed or speculatively in the hope of attracting client(s). Unfortunately this often means the property stays empty, sometimes for many years. Sometimes clients are never found. These sort of projects take years to put together and it might have been planned before Covid, since when many more people work from home and demand for office space has crashed. That’s why l asked.

You asked and I know that there are no plans to lose the Racecourse to make way for any NUFC facility. There was some speculation that the golf course beside the race course may be on a short list to be converted into a new training facility but this can’t be confirmed. Any notion that a new stadium, or training facility replacing the racecourse is nonsense Jeff.

NUFC is going to face major problems trying to make there currant stadium into a super Stadium The Tree Huggers and others will force the council to withhold planning and the application will fail If that happens what is the next option its the race course@@TynesideLife

@@Jeffybonbon you’ve been sold on this ‘super stadium’ notion Jeff and it just ain’t happening. Our club owners have pledged to stay and explained why, they’re making significant investments into our current stadium and even if they wanted to move out of the city centre they need majority fan approval under new FA laws. That ain’t happening either. Thanks for your comments 👍🏻

I don’t like the idea of bringing large offices into the city, it means more traffic on the roads. Longbenton site is much better suited

There’s only 150 car parking spaces in the new car park. Most workers will be travelling in on public transport
