My moods are much better. 2 years ago....48. I was suicidal and in the darkest place of my life. I do regret not seeking any help. I just used cannabis and slept for 2 depressing years. Hello, I guarantee you the stress that you're going through is making it 10 times worse! I know that only because that's what is going on with my situation. I don't have any tips on how to deal with that as some things in life are just unavoidable, however if you can take time to yourself do it as much as you can get away with and sleep as much as you were able to get away with because sleep is really so important at the stage of our life! Look up Dr karen Adams on you tube. Shes a Stanford University menopause specialist and she has tons of helpful details in her videos. I started at about 45. The last year the periods were awful!! Never knew when I was going to start. When I did I bled horribly. Then after a long period I would spot for a few days. And the hot flashes are horrific! In SoCal right now with triple digits. I cannot stop sweating! I’m bipolar and have chronic anxiety. Last October I had such a bad panic attack I ended up in the hospital. All they did was drug me up and send me home. I couldn’t walk out of my house. Ended up back at the hospital. They drugged me up and put me on new meds with such a low dose it did nothing. They just took me off my antipsychotics and I had withdrawals on top of all this. I had to check myself in to the crazy house because the next step was just ending it all. Menopause is no joke. Haven’t had a period since February (knock wood) and turned 50 in March. So I feel you. Hi Eileen, Thank you so much for your videos. I think I have been perimenopausal for several years now and my periods started to get wider apart and last fewer days as you mentioned. Then I started HRT a year ago hoping to alleviate muscle ache in my neck and shoulders and stiffness in my legs in the mornings. Since starting HRT my periods are back every month and last the normal 5-7 days, some very heavy. Will periods stop even if you are on HRT as you are essentially putting in the hormones that are involved in having a period. What if my periods do to stop by the time I am 55, in 6 months? Thanks.
@AvogelCoUk
11 ай бұрын
Hi Manisha It is quite common for periods to come back when you start HRT, it is as you say, you are adding more into the body. Unfortunatley, it is difficult to say how long this may last as it could depend on how your own natural hormones are decreasing. If periods continue, it is wise just to check with your doctor or pharmacist, that this is a normal reaction to the type of HRT you are on and they may also be able to tell you how long this may continue for. Best Wishes Eileen

Hi Symptoms can continue for quite a while for some women but if they are getting worse, not easing, or you are getting new ones, then it is wise to see your doctor. Other health issues such as anaemia, vitamin D or B12 deficiency, thyroid imbalance, diabetes and heart disease can all appear post menopause and cause symptoms that are identical to menopause ones. Hi I am 52yrs old and started peri-menopause at 45yrs old but I also have fibroids, what impact will that do to reaching the menopause? I bleed so heavy I have to take tablets to reduce the first 2-3 days of heavy bleeding 😢. And I got medically retired as a nurse due to this….
@AvogelCoUk

Hi Sophie If the bleeding is this bad, it is important to ask your doctor to refer you on to see if there is anything else that can be done to control this. Unfortunately, constant bleeding can cause anaemia which can lead to other health issue so if you're not already taking an iron supplement then you may find taking a gentle iron tonic such as Floradix can give you a nice little boost. If your doctor won't help then you may find acupuncture helpful. In theory, as your oestrogen drops, the fibroids should shrink but this may depend on just how oestrogen dominant you are so definitely get help with this. Best Wishes Eileen

While you are taking HRT you will not be post menopause as the hormones are keeping you in an artificial premenopause state so to speak. At 58 if you slowly weaned off the HRT your bleeds would likely stop and then after 2 years you can be considered post menopause. I hope that helps!

Hi Greta It is very unusual to have the menopause for that long! What can happen is that other health issues such as vitamin D or B12 deficiency, low iron, under/overactive thyroid, diabetes or heart disease can develop over the years and all of these can cause symptoms that are identical to menopause ones! Also, if someone approaches the menopause with existing health issues such as those I mentioned above, these can prolong the passage through the menopause. Best Wishes Eileen

Hi Lynda It is so much more difficult to tell what's going on if you don't have missing periods as a guide. In general, if your ovaries were left, then you would usually have the menopause at roughly the same age you would have done, had you not had the operation. The average age to start the menopause is 45-55 so you are only just in the normal age range for symptoms to appear. It may be that you have a few years to go before you notice any changes, if any! @@AvogelCoUk This is absolutely not true! I had a hysterectomy at age 36 with healthy ovaries intact. I was not in menopausal at all whatsoever and had a good healthy libido and sex life was normal as if I didn’t have the surgery. The only time a woman would go into menopause is if both of her ovaries are removed. Ovaries regulate our hormones! We don’t get periods because our uterus are removed. That’s the point of the hysterectomy! I’m honestly angry at how women are being misled thinking they still get their periods after a hysterectomy or think they are in menopause when they still have their healthy ovaries. My gosh what bloody hell are you telling women? I am 54 now and my peri menopausa didn’t start until I was around 51 or 52 years old. No hot flash. Just vaginal atrophy and libido is impacted. However, right now I’m feeling a little more like myself on most days is when I suspect my menopause is soon ending or if not already in post menopause. Please stick to facts about hysterectomy. I really wish women like you and others do your due diligence to understand how hysterectomy works! Once uterus is removed, periods end. Unless a woman had fibroids removed on the outside of her uterus between her fallopian tubes and ovaries then she may still get her period. But once uterus is gone, no periods 💯 and of both ovaries removed, then menopause becomes imminent.

Drs do not know! I had a hysterectomy at 36 years old with both healthy ovaries still intact. I’m 54 now. I started my peri menopause around 51 or 52 years ago and my dr checked my hormones said it was fine. I’m literally having vaginal atrophy and and the symptoms of menopause at 54. There is no way for the Dr to know. I literally had to yell at Miss Vogel on her misinformation regarding hysterectomy because there’s so many women out there being misled about hysterectomy. Not all women who’s had hysterectomy go into menopause. It’s ridiculously foolish of her to claim you’re not in normal age to be in menopause. Foolish lies! Don’t listen to anyone on the internet! The only way to know is when your libido is impacted, vaginal dryness/ vaginal atrophy and hot flash and other unusual symptoms you may notice. Keep an eye on those. Gosh I’m literally irritated and hate seeing women being misled. I’m sorry but as a fellow woman who’s had a hysterectomy like you had, I need to speak up on this. Spotting is a very common scenario as you approach the menopause and often due to the way your own hormone balance is changing. However, other issues such as fibroids or polyps/cysts could be a factor so if this continues, it is wise to check with your doctor as well. Best Wishes Eileen

I would like to know what are the indication that Menopause is over!?
@AvogelCoUk
Жыл бұрын
Hi Carolyn You are considered post menopause after 2 years without periods, if you are under 50, and one year, if you're over 50. However, symptoms can continue after this point so it really depends on how long your symptoms go on for after that. The 1 and 2 year rules are really just a guide to indicate that you can no longer conceive. Best Wishes Eileen

I'm 53, I must be somewhere along the process but I have a mirena coil and still have a period every month, never missed one. Don't have hot flushes. Definitely got middle aged spread 😂

Yes, it is much more difficult to tell where you are when you have the coil

what happens if you let period has gotten a lot lighter and less days? is that normal and should i get tests?
@AvogelCoUk
Жыл бұрын
Yes, this is quite normal as you approach the menopause. Tests are not particularly accurate if you're still getting periods but your doctor may offer one to see where you are. Best Wishes Eileen

The trouble is I've not had periods for years because my pill stopped them. So I have no indication regarding periods, so that's no help.

It can be hard to know when periods have been suppressed with hormonal birth control. The same is true for anyone with a hysterectomy. So can be tricky!

Hi Tonya I tend not to recommend yam creams as I haven't found a lot of research on the efficacy. However, some women have told me that it has helped them so may be worth a try for a few months to see if you benefit from it Best Wishes Eileen

Hi can you help not had bleed in five years the start of my symptoms was 2014 and still got all the symptoms thinking by now postmenopause could you plz let me know

Hi Jacqueline You are considered post-menopause after two years without periods but, unfortunatley, for some women the symptoms can continue after this point. It is wise to ask your doctor for a general health check as other other health issues (such as vitamin D or B12 deficiency, thyroid disease, diabetes or even heart disease) can creep in and prolong the symptoms. Best Wishes Eileen

Hi Periods coming back after a year or more is quite common and often caused by a last hormonal surge. However, it is wise to also get this checked by your doctor, just to rule out issues such as fibroids. Best Wishes Eileen

Unfortunatley, it's difficult to say how long the perimenopause may last, Gillian, as it is different for every woman, sorry. The average time scale for the perimenopause is about 3 years but can be longer for some Best Wishes Eileen

This is quite common, the time between cycles generally gets longer and longer. As for the weight gain you can try our kelp tablets, they can help support the metabolism in perimenopause - www.avogel.co.uk/herbal-remedies/sea-kelp/

Hi Marie Missing periods are often one of the first signs of approaching the menopause but, at this stage, periods may come back again at some point for some women. Just keep a note of periods missing each month and if you get to a year then that is usually a sign that you're in the menopause proper! Best Wishes Eileen

Although frequent periods are quite common in the perimenopause, it is important to check with your doctor. They can make sure that other issues such as fibroids, polyps/cysts or even a prolapse are not a factor too Best Wishes Eileen
