Occasionally, you might see a lock that bears a series of numbers or letters somewhere on it... either inked or stamped into the metal. What exactly are these codes for?
Well, they come in a variety of formats and with a number of purposes... but a great many of them tend to be what are referred to as "blind codes" by locksmiths.
A blind code is not the direct bitting or combination data for a given lock... but it allows someone to look up the information if they have the right resource. I've talked about these in my presentations before... now here's a video showing you just how easy it can be to leverage them!
While the locks in this video tend to be pretty cheap and they would likely be easy for any of you to open via manipulation or bypassing alone... remember, that even better quality locks can have blind codes on them sometimes. It may surprise you just how easily someone can perform a covert or even a surreptitious entry if they're connected with the right resources.
Stay safe out there!
