I am surprised that Cover Up didn't make the list. When you draw that at the end of a scenario its a killer, especially for Roland.

Something that might be fun for Nathaniel is to build a deck with Handcuffs/Scene of the Crime/Interrogate. It's not the most efficient way to deal with Tommy but it's got to feel great to engage your evaded nemesis and drag him around through every eldritch horror while you yell at him for information.

Yes, Tommy Malloy is annoying. But Beatcop (2), followed by a basic Fight action with Inspiring Presence, followed by the Beatcop again can deal with him in one action. And you still have your ability on events for the other enemy ready.

I've been seeing a lot of people say this, and while it is absolutely 100% true, it then begins to devalue other allies in Nathaniel Cho, which is a shame, imo.

Travis's #1 should have been the second copy of Crisis of Identity lol. God I hate Hoods. Disproportionately. Drawing these dudes before you're properly set up feels outlandishly bad. Could they at least not deal a horror? Such nasty design! Strong strong agree. Great video as always gents, thanks.

They are Cultist enemies as well, so cards like Mysterious Chanting can put doom on them at the wrong moment. Or - perish the thought - Mysteries of the Lodge adding a doom and making it 5 fight 5 evade for one turn.

The key thing to remember about the risk of drawing abandoned and alone is that it will not ever happen if you just go infinite on your current deck cycle as Wendy, which is absolutely the strongest way to play her anyway. If you reshuffle as Wendy you did something VERY wrong. Your goal with Wendy is generally to get your discard stacked so your most bonkers events are all at the top late game when your deck is super thin, and then play one event for every card you draw so you can infinitely play your best cards, which is why the initial revelation effect needs to hit so hard.

I'm with Travis on Abandoned & Alone. It's just always there, forever cutting your deck down bit by bit. If a game lasts long enough (*cough* Curtain Call from Path to Carcosa *cough*), you might end up with absolutely nothing left in your deck...

Imagine if there was a scenario that required you to have at least ten cards in your hand to win, stripped you of your greatest asset for the duration of the scenario (because it is a unique item) and also took away your investigator ability. But of course it exists, and I pity anyone who decides to play the Forgotten Age campaign true solo with Wendy.

I agree with Travis. To me the most brutal weaknesses are not the most punishing ones, cause that means you are still playing the investigator despite it. To me the most brutal are that make me not play the invstigator. And those are, Lola, Sefina, and Roland. My problem with Lola and Sefina is the reason I pick them is their fun ability, and both weaknesses actually kill the investigator's ability, and both of them appear more than once. One of the two times I've played with Sefina, I had to discard two random cards before I got the chance to draw a painted world, and by the time I drew it, the cards I really wanted to play multiple times were gone...

As overtuned as Dark Memory is, I wish every weakness was like it in the principle of "your greatest strength, taken too far." There's lots of times when you can use Dark Memory to your temporary advantage as a horror source, so long as you can survive it. (Agnes likes taking horror, does she? Well here's a free source of horror!) Obviously as printed it still eventually becomes Ancient Evils, which is the overtuned part, but fundamentally it's vastly more interesting than a typical weakness, because there's actual back and forth and potentially-positive interaction with it. E.g. imagine if Cover Up's clues counted as being on your location, and thus could power up Roland's gun or turn on Inquiring Mind, etc (Roland likes being on locations with clues, does he? Well here's a whole pile of clues for him!) Or e.g. if Pete's weakness simply said "Assets you control don't ready during the upkeep phase" (instead of "cannot ready") AND also had "Ignore the limit on Pete's [lightningbolt] ability." (You like discarding cards to ready Duke/etc? Well how about being able to do that as 'much' as you want!) Tony's Quarry (Tony likes bounties, does he? Here's a free one!) and Baron Samedi (Marie likes doom on cards, does she? The Baron is here to help!) do have shades of this, but those are very minimal. Voice of the Messenger (Calvin likes trauma/horror/damage, does he? Here's some for free!) is probably the most real example of this dynamic. (Although personally I've never had a problem getting Calvin loaded up with damage/horror in-scenario, just with surviving, and the direct damage/horror is a very real threat to that that forces you to play a step below max power.) Call of the Unknown is almost there, as it encourages you to play Ursula the way she wants to play, but it does so solely through punishment. Crisis of Identity would be so much more interesting if it e.g. temporarily trapped you into a random role but made you better at it (or if roles in general were positive-but-limited, instead of just being negative-freedoms).

I should also mention Detached from Reality, which has many times been a free pseudo-Gate-Box activation and stopped a drawn enemy from spawning. (It can also completely break/trivialize Waking Nightmare if drawn at the correct time, but that's a scenario bug. It's actually happened to me -- although I ignored that nonsense and chose another location (as I knew how the scenario is supposed to work), because this is a co-op narrative game and that sort of technical-rules exploit has no place in it.)

Finns weakness is the most annoying one for me, it just blanks a draw step and then shuffles back into your deck. To get rid of it you need to draw it whilst there is a hunter enemy at a connecting location which is so hard to set up. The Finn decks I play always have a ton of card draw so I end up drawing it 3-5 times a scenario, it often gets to the point where my deck is 5 or fewer cards and I start trying to purposefully draw cards when I'm beside an enemy because I'm just desperately trying to get rid of it.

Handcuffs is so good at dealing with Tommy, who is such an annoying weakness, it seems like an auto-include now. Hoods is conveniently Ornate Bow-able.

It still takes two actions to deal with Tommy with handcuffs, one to play the card another to use it on Tommy. It's a minimal advantage compared to using actionless damage effects to save yourself one attack.

@@davidko9289 Beat Cop 2 is the most popular. You still need to perform 2 fight actions to finish Tommy but his fight is so abysmal that it's usually isn't a problem. Moreover your fight will be probably improved by your gloves (and the beat cop), meanwhile the gloves don't provide any bonus to attempt the evasion with handcuffs and it's a 3 difficulty instead of 2 to begin with. Still under the grasp of Nathaniel's 5 base strength but the chaos bag can be merciless sometimes. The Beat Cop itself is a useful card regardless of whether you'll draw Tommy or not, it's +1 Combat (for everything not just attacks), it's 2 horror soaks and it can potentially deal 3 testless ping damage. Meanwhile handcuffs will probably do nothing for you unless Tommy shows up. Other than that you can use Guard Dog or you can expend one of your event cards, like get over here (2) or CounterPunch (2) if you really need to save yourself that extra action. Still the point you made that you can play handcuffs whenever you want is a very good one. So you'll be able to deal with tommy in just one action if the situation is dire.

Surprised Voice of the Messenger isn't on this list.... Not only can it knock you out of a scenario, it will likely kill you before the end of the campaign.....

Sure, but I've also drawn it late in a scenario when I've taken a bunch of mental trauma in the past but been at 1health 2 sanity, and I choose horror/mental trauma only to have the mythos knock me out the next turn with horror and kill me... perhaps I just dont know how to mitigate this on him, but this weakness for me is by far the worst

Lol so much at Tony's quarry bit. I have had luck with putting in specific cards to counter it, for example Get Over Here and Marksmanship with Chuck Fergus. Along with untabooed Elusive to teleport over to it. But it does require a lot to counter it.

How is Tony's Quarry worse than Dark Memory? Both are a doom, but at least Tony's Quarry is free and you have a chance to get rid of it. Plus if you're really lucky it doesn't even matter because the agenda was about to advance anyway.

I made the mistake of playing Wendy in Return to Carcosa where every treachery discards your deck. The entire campaign was stress inducing

If I'm not off on the rules, you can play around Dark Memory by staying close to max handsize. When drawing Dark Memory, get an extra card or two from somewhere and discard it during upkeep. You can also get rid of The Tower or The Devil in the same manner.

Oh snap - I missed that detail. Thanks for pointing this out. It's on p22 of the rules reference: A player may not optionally choose to discard a weakness card from hand, unless a card explicitly specifies otherwise.

@@thirteenthirtyseven4730 I think, if you get Amnesia as your RBW and accept your fate in TCU (earning The Tower), if you manage to get both DM and Tower into your hand before Amnesia strikes, you can choose to keep The Tower and discard DM. Or you can just as well hope to forget your dark memories in alcohol. You need a Rogue friend or Psychologist and manage to fail a willpower (2) test (with Drawing Thin, Dark Prophecy, Olive, what have you), preferable while only holding DM in hand. (Yes, you can discard "at random", even if it's the only card.) You can also discard it from the top of your deck, either with Scroll of Secrets, or a Scrying-Yaotl-combo. All very many hoops to jump through. The easiest way, but still very luck dependent, might be Short Supply.

I agree that Dark Memory is quite annoying, but it can also be used strategically to ping enemies for a turn or two. Reveal Dark Memory, put 1 horror on Peter Sylvestre (which is then subsequently healed), 1 horror on Agnes to ping an enemy for 1 damage. I once killed an enemy 3 spaces away with Dark Memory in a tight spot for the team.

Spent my 3 actions moving there and pinged it with Agnes' ability from Dark Memory (it was a one-health enemy with some doom on it AFAIR). Not very efficient, but it opened up for the other team-members to do something more sensible with their turns. If you can hold Dark Memory for a turn or two, it can maybe be played at a time when the agenda advances anyway to mitigate the doom effect. Not saying that Dark Memory isn't annoying though.

Dark memory annoys me that it is a spell. It makes Arcane Initiate much worse for Agnes, since you have to take dark memory if it is the only spell. AI is so good for main class mystics since it helps with their consistency issues, but this weakness cripples it.

Thrice-Damned Curiosity may well deal Harvey Walters 3-4 damage when you draw it. But, wait, that is not the worst, since you may EASILY draw it twice during a scenario. It is extremely dangerous.

Wait, with "To Fight The Black Wind", when you draw that during the upkeep phase it's an instant Ancient Evils as well right? You can't heal the direct horror from Carolyn when you draw this card during upkeep. That's doubly terrible. On the other side do I understand correctly that only horror assigned to the investigator card counts for this weakness? or does it also count when assigned to other assets?

Yeah I really hate that weakness. I once got it during Echoes of the Past true solo. So the Agenda threshold is 2, there's just no way you can get rid of Baron Samedi. But the worst part is that it prevented me from getting Mr Peabody, so getting into the hidden Library became impossible.

Tommy Malloy is an easy enemy in a deck where you’re insanely good at fighting. And other people can join in, and he’s only got 2 fight. Gotta disagree there, especially for the 2nd worst in the game

@@konstantinstepanov5461 You can look up custom deck printing companies too.... They're a bit more expensive than this, but are still reasonably affordable. I'm currently printing a set of them and all the parallel cards for each person in my playgroup and it's coming to around $30CAD
