You have a round pole, specifically 3.5" round in diameter and you are wondering what your options are on the market? You don't want to dig up a 400 lb concrete ball. This video will show you what your options are.
1st you need to decide which brand you want to go with. There are two brands in the United States - Lifetime and Spalding (formely Huffy).
The majority of Lifetime's products are made in Clearfield, Utah in the USA. Spalding imports all their items from China, but they are still great quality. Who doesn't respect the Spalding brand right?
Lifetime offers an adjustable bracket model 1044 that adjusts using a broomstick. It raises up in 6 inch increments from 7.5' to 10'. The important thing to keep in mind is that your pole must be 8.5' out of the ground for your rim to reach 10'. There is no complicated assembly - no drilling holes. It simply mounts using u-bolts that hug the pole.
The second Lifetime option is the non-adjustable bracket model 9594. You can get yourself into trouble with that if you don't have a pole that's extra long. It only works on poles that are 3.5" round and 10.5' tall. When I say "works" I mean that your rim will only reach 10' if the pole is 10.5' tall and most poles are not that tall.
All Lifetime backboards that are sold as backboard and rim combos on the market are compatible. That makes the Lifetime brand the most simple option. The video shows a list of compatible backboards whish include:
71526, 90087, 79910, 90086, 73729, 73621, 73650, 3241, and 3823.
Next, we have the Spalding brand. If you have a 3.5" round pole you have a few more options than what Lifetime offers including a superior bracket.
The Spalding bracket 316 is top-of-the-line stable. It's a great option for a high-end backboard. Your pole must be 8.5' and 3.5" round in diameter for your rim to reach 10'. The backboards that are compatible are:
79564, 73907, 79349, 79355, 79351, and 79354.
The second adjustable Spalding bracket is a bit of a step down in quality, but also a big step down in price (you get what you pay for). That would be model 8839SR (aka 8839S) and it requires an 8.5' tall pole that's 3.5" in diameter. It's compatible with 79564, 73907, 79351, 79354, 80348, 80318, and 80602.
Lastly, and probably least is the Spalding fixed-height bracket 8406SR and that requires a 10.5' tall pole with a 3.5" diameter width. It's compatible with all the aforementioned Spalding backboards: 79564, 73907, 79349, 79355, 79351, 79354, 80348, 80318, and 80602.
